About the Role 

Based in Hedland, the Youth Support Mentor plays a key role in supporting young people involved with the Youth Justice system to achieve positive outcomes and build stronger futures. Working closely with the Youth Justice Coordinator, Youth Justice Services, families, and community partners, you will provide mentoring, advocacy, practical support, and guidance to help young people overcome barriers and achieve their goals. 

This rewarding role offers the opportunity to make a genuine difference by supporting young people in areas including emotional wellbeing, education and employment, life skills development, rehabilitation, and community engagement. 

Key Responsibilities Include 

• Building positive and trusting relationships with young people through mentoring and ongoing support. 

• Supporting young people to achieve goals relating to education, employment, wellbeing, family relationships, and personal development. 

• Working collaboratively with Youth Justice Services and partner agencies to coordinate support and achieve positive outcomes. 

• Advocating for young people and connecting them with appropriate services, resources, and opportunities. 

• Supporting young people to develop life skills, resilience, confidence, and healthy decision-making strategies. 

• Maintaining strong relationships with schools, health services, community organisations, and other stakeholders. 

• Providing continuity of care and support to encourage engagement and reduce negative influences. 

• Maintaining accurate client records, case notes, reports, and outcome data. 

• Contributing to reporting, quality improvement, and compliance activities. 

• Supporting bail services and youth justice initiatives where required.

You'll Need 

• Experience working with at-risk young people within youth justice, community services, education, mental health, or related sectors. 

• Strong communication, relationship-building, and problem-solving skills. 

• Ability to engage and motivate young people from diverse backgrounds. 

• Understanding of the challenges experienced by young people living in regional and remote Western Australia. 

• Ability to work independently while maintaining strong collaboration with internal and external stakeholders. 

• Commitment to culturally safe, strengths-based, and person-centred practice. 

• Experience maintaining accurate records, reports, and case management documentation. 

• A genuine passion for supporting young people to achieve positive outcomes. 

Pre-employment Requirements 

• Current Driver's Licence (C or A Class) 

• National Police Clearance (within 3 months) 

• Department of Justice Clearance 

• Current First Aid Certificate 

• Working with Children Check
