Part-time | Term-time only | Student Welfare Team
Staines Memorial College is seeking a compassionate and experienced Counsellor to support the social, emotional, behavioural and spiritual wellbeing of our students.
Working as part of the Student Welfare Team, you will provide timely, informed and therapeutic support to students while partnering with families, College staff and external allied health professionals.

This is a part-time and term-time only role.
About the RoleAs the College Counsellor, you will provide professional counselling, pastoral care and wellbeing support to students across the College.
You will:
Respond to students’ social, emotional and behavioural wellbeing needs
Provide appropriate therapeutic care and support
Offer Christian guidance and encouragement to students, families and staff
Support students experiencing escalating behaviours to develop more positive ways of responding
Work collaboratively with the Student Welfare Team and other College leaders
Liaise with families and external allied health and support services
Case-manage students and maintain accurate, confidential records
Contribute to wellbeing programs, activities and professional learning
This position reports directly to the Director of Character and Culture and works closely with the Student Welfare team.
Key ResponsibilitiesProvide authentic, appropriate and timely counselling support to students
Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of counselling and wellbeing practices
Support the character development of students and help them recognise and develop their individual strengths
Work with College leaders to respond effectively to student wellbeing needs
Coordinate referrals and connect students with internal and external support services
Organise and support activities and experiences that strengthen student wellbeing
Manage appointments, case notes, follow-up actions and other administrative requirements
Provide relevant professional development and wellbeing education to staff and students
Participate in staff meetings, professional development and clinical supervision
Maintain professional, ethical and confidential counselling practices
Follow College policies, safety procedures and the Staff Code of Conduct

Be a person of Christian faith and integrity
Uphold the College’s Mission, Vision and Statement of Faith
Be an active participant in a local Christian church
Hold relevant qualifications and experience in counselling or a related field
Demonstrate a strong understanding of student wellbeing and therapeutic practice
Enjoy working with children and young people
Communicate sensitively, clearly and professionally
Build positive and effective relationships with students, families, staff and external providers
Exercise sound professional judgement and maintain appropriate confidentiality
Demonstrate patience when supporting people with differing needs and abilities
Be highly organised and able to manage appointments, case notes and follow-up actions
Be committed to ongoing professional development and clinical supervision
Hold or be eligible to obtain a current Blue Card (Working with Children Check)
Applicants must be:
an Australian Citizen or
a permanent resident or
have an appropriate permit to work in Australia
Experience providing counselling or therapeutic support to children and young people
Experience working within a school or education environment
Knowledge of contemporary student wellbeing and engagement practices
Experience in student case management and referral coordination
Ability to develop and deliver wellbeing programs or professional learning
Membership of, or eligibility for membership with, an appropriate professional association
Experience working within a Christian organisation or ministry setting
Be part of a supportive, faith-based College community
Make a meaningful difference in the lives of children and young people
Work collaboratively with a committed Student Welfare Team
Contribute to the development of student wellbeing and character
Support a mission-driven organisation committed to transforming lives
