Senior Civil Engineer

Intrax is looking for a Senior Civil Engineer to join our Victorian Residential Civil team.

This role sits at the centre of how we deliver practical, buildable stormwater and civil engineering solutions for residential projects across Victoria. You'll work closely with builders, councils, water authorities and internal specialists to deliver quality outcomes across detached housing, multi-unit developments, basement drainage and stormwater design.

This is a hands-on senior engineering role. You'll take ownership of technical design, review the work of others, support project delivery, and help develop the capability of engineers around you.

What You'll Do

• Lead stormwater and civil design for low-rise residential developments, including dual occupancies, townhouses and multi-unit projects, from planning through council endorsement and approval.
• Navigate Victorian council planning, engineering endorsement and approval processes, working proactively with councils to resolve design issues and achieve practical outcomes.
• Coordinate civil design across architecture, structural, surveying, geotechnical and building services disciplines, identifying clashes and design inconsistencies before they affect approvals or construction.
• Build effective working relationships with council officers, builders, architects and consultants to resolve technical and approval issues efficiently.
• Design, document and review civil and stormwater solutions for residential projects, particularly dual occupancy, townhouse and multi-unit developments.
• Prepare and review designs for on-site detention, multi-unit drainage, basement drainage, subsoil systems and WSUD solutions.
• Apply relevant standards, including AS 3500.3, local council requirements and water authority expectations.
• Work with engineers, drafters and offshore resources to deliver accurate, practical and timely design outputs.
• Provide technical guidance, coaching and feedback to junior engineers and designers.
• Coordinate with builders, councils, water authorities, surveyors, structural engineers and geotechnical teams.
• Support project scoping, design advice, fee inputs and technical responses during concept and delivery stages.
• Identify design risks early and work through practical solutions with the broader project team.
• Contribute to better systems, templates and ways of working across the Residential Civil team.
• Support a culture of quality, accountability and continuous improvement.

What You Bring

You're a technically strong civil engineer who likes being close to the work. You know how to get designs out the door, but you also care about quality, coaching and practical outcomes.
You'll ideally bring:

• A degree in Civil Engineering or equivalent.
• Ideally 5 years' relevant experience in civil and stormwater design, ideally in consulting.
• Strong experience in building-focused residential stormwater design, including dual occupancies, townhouses and multi-unit developments, OSD, drainage and local authority approvals.
• Practical working knowledge of AutoCAD, Civil 3D, MUSIC or similar design tools.
• A sound understanding of Victorian council and water authority requirements.
• Confidence reviewing drawings, calculations and design documentation.
• Strong communication skills with builders, clients, councils and internal teams.
• A calm, practical approach to managing competing priorities.
• An interest in coaching others and sharing technical knowledge.
• A down-to-earth working style, with a focus on quality, teamwork and good client service.
• Demonstrated experience delivering stormwater and civil designs for dual occupancy, townhouse and multi-unit residential developments in Victoria.
• Strong practical knowledge of Victorian council planning, civil endorsement and approval pathways, including experience responding to council RFIs and negotiating technical outcomes.
• Experience working directly with builders, architects and councils to resolve residential drainage and civil design issues.
• Strong multidisciplinary coordination skills, with the ability to identify clashes between civil, architectural, structural, survey and other design inputs.
