Teachers' Assistant

We are excited to be seeking passionate and dedicated Teachers' Assistant to join our community in Term 1, 2027. Permanent full time and part time positions are available, and days may be negotiable for the right candidate.

Pacific Hope Christian School is a special school providing Christian Education for students with a mild to moderate level of intellectual delay or Autism in Year 1 to Year 12.  This co-educational Christian learning community is committed to developing and nurturing its students.  Pacific Hope Christian School is located in Tweed Heads on the far north coast of NSW and is part of the Pacific Group of nine Christian schools, with six of these schools located in regional NSW.   Pacific Hope Chrisitan School is located on the same site as Pacific Coast Christian School and has its own Principal but shares facilities.  Each student is unique, and we aim to develop the full potential in each individual by providing a mixture of individualised and small group instruction and support.  Pacific Hope Christian School has a clear vision to honour Christ in all its programs and practices. A Teacher Assistant works under the direction and supervision of the classroom teacher. They provide assistance to students with disability and additional support needs. They contribute to the provisions of a quality educational service by supporting teachers with the preparation and enhancement of learning materials and associated activities and working directly with the students.

To be effective in this position you will have:

• A passion to support students with special needs
• Well-developed interpersonal and verbal/written communication skills to work collaboratively with colleagues
• Initiative and capacity to work with minimal supervision
• Current First Aid Certificate
• Ability to facilitate a safe work environment
• Qualified or working toward a qualification in Education Support or a Special Needs Certificate

The successful applicant will be responsible for:

1. Supporting student learning under the direction of the teacher with individual and small groups of students, both within and outside of the classroom
2. Assist with planning, preparation, and delivery of educational programs to support student needs
3. Ensure student confidentiality is consistent with school policy and legislative requirements
4. Ensure, in line with School policy, ongoing Professional Development
5. Maintain cooperative working relationships with other team members and stakeholders
6. Provide interventions and support to meet the safety, social, emotional, health and personal care needs of students, where required
7. Provide assistance with school routines and classroom activities

Demonstrated ability desired:

• Implement strategies to support the needs of students with special needs
• Collect and interpret information in relation to student achievement and behaviour
• Maintain professional and pastoral rapport with students, parents, and staff
• Communicate effectively and display a high level of interpersonal skills to function as an effective team member
• Interpret and implement individual Educational Plans, including behaviour plans and transition plans
