About The Opportunity

Ready to start building your career in the water industry?

Bundaberg Regional Council is offering exciting two-year Water Industry Operations traineeships, giving you the opportunity to earn while you learn and gain practical experience supporting essential water and wastewater services for our community. As a Water Industry Operations Trainee, you will work towards completing NWP30222 - Certificate III in Water Industry Operations while receiving hands-on training and experience within Council’s Water Services team.

Opportunities are available across two streams:

• Treatment - Develop practical skills working within Council’s water and wastewater treatment facilities. You will learn about plant operations and maintenance, monitoring systems, responding to operational issues and applying safe, environmental and water quality work practices. The working environment may include manual handling, confined spaces and chemical systems.
• Networks - Develop practical skills maintaining Council's water infrastructure and networks. You will gain experience in general labouring and maintenance activities, working with pipes and network infrastructure, using tools and equipment, operating mechanical plant and completing work records using Council systems and digital devices.

As part of your application, you will be asked to indicate whether you would prefer to be considered for Treatment or Networks.

This is an excellent opportunity for someone who is keen to learn, has a genuine interest in the water industry and wants to develop practical skills while contributing to essential services for our community.

About You

You don’t need years of industry experience to apply. We’re looking for people who have a genuine interest in the water industry, are willing to learn and are ready to develop their skills as part of a team.

To be successful in these traineeships, you will need to demonstrate:

• A genuine interest in the water industry and a willingness and ability to learn new skills.
• A commitment to safe work practices and the ability to learn and follow Council work practices, policies and procedures.
• Sound communication and interpersonal skills.
• The ability to work effectively as part of a team.
• A current Construction Industry General Safety Induction Card (White or Blue Card).

Depending on your preferred stream:

• Treatment – You will also require a current Class 'C' Driver Licence, or the ability to obtain one, along with sound computer and digital technology skills.
• Networks – You will need the ability to safely undertake physical and manual labouring activities and an understanding of basic workplace safety and manual handling practices. A Class 'MR' Driver's Licence would be an advantage. 

It would also be desirable to have relevant water industry training, licences, work tickets or qualifications applicable to your preferred stream.
