About the role
Our client is an established mid-sized Melbourne commercial law firm with more than 40 years’ experience advising businesses, property groups, developers and private clients.
Property has been a core practice of the firm since its establishment, and the team has developed a particularly strong reputation across commercial property, development and leasing.
The practice acts for a diverse client base including property developers, private and public companies, family businesses, investors and high-net-worth individuals, advising on transactions ranging from commercial acquisitions and disposals through to major development projects and complex leasing arrangements.
The firm offers the quality and sophistication of work typically associated with larger commercial practices, while retaining a more accessible environment with direct partner involvement and genuine opportunities for senior lawyers to build client relationships and progress their careers.
An opportunity is available for an experienced Commercial Property Lawyer at Senior Associate level to join the firm's Melbourne property team.
This is a broad transactional property role offering genuine matter carriage and direct client exposure across sophisticated commercial property and development work.
Your practice will include:
Commercial, retail and industrial acquisitions and disposals;
Drafting and negotiating contracts of sale;
Commercial, retail and industrial leasing;
Acting for landlords and tenants on complex leasing transactions;
Property development projects;
Drafting and negotiating development agreements;
Joint venture and other property ownership arrangements;
Due diligence for property acquisitions and development transactions;
Subdivisions and staged developments;
Property structuring and owners corporation matters;
Advising on GST, land tax, stamp duty and other transaction-related property issues;
Working on FIRB and other regulatory requirements where applicable; and
Advising developers, investors and commercial clients throughout the lifecycle of property transactions.
You will take substantial responsibility for your own matters while working closely with experienced principals on larger and more complex transactions.
At Senior Associate level, there will also be scope to develop client relationships, contribute to the broader growth of the practice and provide guidance to more junior members of the team.
You will be an experienced commercial property lawyer with a strong transactional background.
Ideally, you will have:
Solid post-admission experience in commercial property law;
Strong experience drafting and negotiating contracts of sale and commercial leases;
Experience with commercial property acquisitions and disposals;
Exposure to property development transactions;
Experience drafting or negotiating development agreements and joint venture arrangements;
Strong due diligence and transaction management skills;
Experience acting for commercial landlords and tenants;
Strong technical drafting skills;
The ability to manage matters with a high degree of autonomy;
Confidence dealing directly with developers, investors and commercial clients; and
Strong commercial judgement and an ability to provide practical, solutions-focused advice.
Experience gained within a recognised commercial property team will be highly regarded.
The firm offers:
High-quality commercial property and development work;
Exposure to major development projects and sophisticated property transactions;
A diverse client base including developers, investors and established commercial businesses;
Genuine autonomy and direct client contact;
Close access to experienced principals and senior property practitioners;
The opportunity to develop and strengthen your own client relationships;
Clear opportunities for further career progression;
Structured mentoring and professional development;
A strong internal CPD program and support for professional memberships;
Competitive remuneration and employee benefits; and
A supportive and collegiate mid-tier environment with a genuine focus on work-life balance.
This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced commercial property lawyer looking for quality transactional work, genuine autonomy and a clear pathway to continue progressing within an established Melbourne property practice.
