Accounts Officer

Are you a finance professional who enjoys getting the detail right, solving problems and helping people?

Burnie City Council is looking for an Accounts Officer to join our Finance team and play an important role in the administration and collection of Council’s revenue.

This is a great opportunity for someone with experience in accounts receivable, revenue, rates or financial administration who enjoys a varied role that combines numbers, systems and customer service.

What you will be doing

You will support the day-to-day administration of Council’s revenue streams, including rates, charges, fees and sundry debtors. You will work closely with the Rates Officer and Finance team to ensure accounts are processed accurately, payments and reconciliations are completed on time, and customers receive clear and helpful advice.

Your days will include:

• Processing rates, accounts, payments, direct debits, refunds and adjustments.
• Maintaining accurate property, debtor and revenue records.
• Preparing and issuing accounts, statements, rates instalments and notices.
• Monitoring outstanding accounts and supporting debt recovery processes.
• Completing end-of-month processes and reconciliations.
• Processing payment arrangements, concessions and hardship provisions.
• Responding to customer enquiries and resolving issues professionally.
• Processing statutory s132 certificates within required timeframes.
• Preparing debt management and collection reports.
• Supporting the effective use and administration of Council’s financial systems.

What we are looking for

We are looking for someone who is accurate, organised and customer focused, with the confidence to manage their own workload and deal with a range of enquiries.

You will ideally bring:

• Experience in revenue, rates, accounts receivable or a similar finance role.
• Strong numerical, analytical and data entry skills.
• Excellent attention to detail and accuracy.
• Experience working with financial or ERP systems.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
• The ability to interpret and apply legislation, policies and procedures.
• Good Microsoft Office skills, particularly Excel and Word.
• A commitment to providing excellent customer service.
• The ability to manage competing priorities and meet deadlines.
• A high level of integrity, confidentiality and professionalism.
• A current driver's licence.

Knowledge or experience in local government revenue and rating will be highly regarded, but we are also interested in candidates with transferable finance experience.
