Ballarat Family Dental is seeking a Dental Hygienist or Oral Health Therapist to join our growing team!

If you love the scope of hygiene/perio and dental whitening, you’ll fit right in. Additionally, if you enjoy seeing kids or have an interest in orthodontics (we’re happy to teach you!), we have plenty of cases ready for you.

About Us We are an 11-year-old dental practice that moved into a larger, purpose-built facility in late 2022, located on the west side of Ballarat in Lucas. Much of our growth comes from word-of-mouth referrals. We’re hoping to welcome an OHT or Hygienist who lives in (or is ready to join) the wonderful Ballarat community.

When you join us, you’ll enjoy modern facilities, top-tier equipment, and an experienced team with great systems already in place. Due to busy books, we need another practitioner to help maintain our high standard of care and keep wait times low for our patients.

Our Philosophy & Day-to-Day

• Perio & Prevention First: Our team genuinely gets excited about periodontal health discussions- it’s the foundation of everything we do. Using the GBT method, you’ll coach patients to take their gum health as seriously as we do.

• Orthodontic Opportunities: You’ll get exposure to aligner therapy and some fixed orthodontics. Tasks include taking records/photos, placing attachments/buttons, and removal. No prior ortho experience? No worries- we can teach you everything.

• Surgical/GA Access: With 6 full- and part-time dentists (and capacity for 9 chairs plus a purpose-built, GA-equipped treatment room), there are even opportunities to perform treatment under GA if you're keen!

• Great Support: You’ll work with a dedicated dental assistant (shared with our existing OHTs) who will help with photo uploads, X-ray setups, room turnarounds, charting, and basic note-taking.

We look for team members who naturally identify potential dental issues, help explain treatment plans, and collaborate seamlessly. Teamwork forms the foundation of everything we do- we love to work hard, learn together, and have fun doing it!

What we are looking for:

• A reliable self-starter capable of leading your own clinical workflow.

• Sound understanding of periodontal disease management and caries risk assessment.

• High-quality clinical skills (including successful subgingival calculus removal and instrument sharpening).

• A passion for evidence-based dentistry and patient education, offering bespoke, sustainable solutions.

• Humility to self-reflect, learn, and collaborate with the broader team.

• Ability to refer work back to the patient’s primary dentist when required.

• Current Radiation License (capable of taking Lateral Cephs, OPGs, and CBCTs).

Position Details & Benefits:

• Hours: Full-time (4–5 weekdays per week).
