About the role
Bring what you know. Learn what we know. Help shape the future of Australian agriculture.
At Rural Affinity, agriculture is at the heart of what we do.
We’re a specialist agricultural insurance business, working closely with brokers and rural communities across Australia. As we continue to grow our agricultural expertise, we’re looking for the next generation of agricultural thinkers to grow alongside us.
That’s where you come in.
The opportunity
Our Agricultural Cadet Program is a one year Sydney based program, designed for university students who already have a strong foundation in agriculture and want the opportunity to put that knowledge into practice. But this isn’t a traditional cadetship where you simply come in to learn from us, it’s a two-way exchange of knowledge.
You’ll gain exposure to agricultural insurance, risk and the commercial realities of protecting Australian farming businesses. In return, we want you to bring what you’re learning – contemporary agricultural research, emerging technologies, new farming practices, crop and seasonal knowledge, and a fresh perspective on the challenges and opportunities facing Australian agriculture.
Together, we want to build something bigger: a centre of agricultural excellence within Rural Affinity.
What you could be working on
No two cadet experiences will look exactly the same. Depending on your studies, interests and expertise, you could:
Research emerging agricultural risks, trends and technologiesProvide crop, seasonal and farming practice insights to our teamsShare contemporary university research and thinking with the businessContribute agricultural expertise to product and innovation discussionsDevelop Agricultural Insight Papers on topics relevant to our industryWork on an agricultural innovation or research projectDeliver knowledge sessions to our peopleContribute to our growing Agricultural Knowledge HubHelp translate technical agricultural concepts into useful insights for our brokers and business
You’ll also have the opportunity to learn from experienced professionals across agricultural underwriting, claims, product, distribution and risk.
Who we're looking for
You’ll currently be studying a relevant degree such as:
Agricultural ScienceAgricultureAgribusinessOr another relevant agriculture-related disciplineWe're even open to students in commerce-related disciplines wanting to get into our industry
Ideally, you’ll have completed at least 50% of your degree, giving you a solid foundation of agricultural knowledge that you’re ready to start applying in a commercial environment.
We’re particularly interested in students with exposure to areas such as cropping, livestock, agronomy, agricultural research, machinery or practical farm operations.
Maybe you grew up on a farm. Maybe you've worked on one. Maybe your experience comes from research, university, an agricultural society or involvement in rural communities. We are also looking for those who can commit to a 12-month program and are Sydney based.
What you’ll bring
We're looking for someone who is naturally curious about agriculture and where the industry is heading. You'll be comfortable bringing your own ideas and perspectives to the table, while being just as open to learning from the experience of others around you.
You'll enjoy connecting what you're learning at university with real-world agricultural and commercial challenges, asking questions, exploring new ideas and taking ownership of the work you contribute to.
Most importantly, you'll be willing to share what you know. We want someone who sees this as an opportunity to contribute, not just observe.
Why Rural Affinity?
You'll have the chance to bring your expertise into a business where agriculture isn't a side industry – it's the reason Rural Affinity exists.
For 20 years, we've combined agricultural knowledge with insurance expertise to protect Australian farmers and rural businesses. Today, we're a growing specialist agricultural insurance agency working across crop, farm, livestock and plantation timber insurance throughout Australia.
As we look to the future, we want to keep building our agricultural expertise – and that's where you come in. You'll work alongside people with deep experience in agricultural insurance and rural risk, gain exposure to the commercial side of the agricultural industry, and see your research and ideas contribute to real business conversations.
You'll also join a down-to-earth team that takes what we do seriously, without taking ourselves too seriously. And yes, you'll probably meet a few four-legged colleagues around the office too.
If you're passionate about Australian agriculture and ready to put your knowledge to work, we'd love to hear from you!
To infinite horizons.
