About the Role:
An exciting opportunity exists for Genetic Counsellors to join ACT Genetic Service, a specialist service providing genetic counselling and support to individuals and families with a personal or family history of genetic conditions. This role offers the chance to work across diverse clinical settings while contributing to a highly regarded genetics program.
ACT Genetic Service delivers comprehensive clinical genetics care, including genetic counselling, risk assessment, education, genetic testing, psychological support and clinical genetic consultations for clients with a personal or family history of a genetic condition, or where a genetic condition is suspected. Services are provided across Canberra Hospital and Community Health Centres, supporting clients through both face-to-face and telehealth models of care.
Working under the limited direction of the Senior Genetic Counsellor, you will provide expert genetic counselling services within mainstream genetics clinics. This includes attending consultations, delivering counselling and ongoing support to clients across multiple campuses, facilitating telemedicine appointments, coordinating referrals to relevant agencies, and liaising with laboratories regarding specimen collection and transportation. You will maintain accurate and confidential patient and family records, contribute to service reporting requirements, and provide specialist advice and information on genomic and genetic services to health professionals across hospital and community settings.
The successful candidates will demonstrate outstanding organisational skills, a strong work ethic and initiative, excellent written and verbal communication abilities, and a professional and conscientious approach to all aspects of their work. You will be capable of working autonomously while also contributing effectively as part of a supportive and dynamic team.
In this role, you will benefit from the ongoing professional development, collaboration with experienced genetic and healthcare professionals, and the chance to contribute to the growing field of genomics. The position also provides a varied and rewarding work environment, including clinic-based, community and telehealth service delivery, enabling you to develop a broad range of skills while supporting clients across the ACT.
Note: A merit pool may be established from this recruitment process and will remain valid for 12 months. This pool may be used to fill similar roles/ future vacant positions at the same level across CHS.
