Reporting to the Head of People & Culture, you will play a pivotal role in supporting managers and employees across the organisation while helping build a high-performing, compliant, and people-focused workplace.

About the Role

The People & Culture Business Partner serves as a strategic partner and trusted advisor to leaders across the College. The role combines employee relations expertise, workforce planning, organisational development, people operations leadership, and employment compliance to support business performance and employee success.

 This position reports into the Head of People & Culture, supervises the People & Culture Advisor and works closely with leaders, and payroll to ensure best-practice people management across the employee lifecycle.

Key Responsibilities

Employee Relations & Performance Management

• Provide expert advice on performance management, misconduct, grievances, investigations, disciplinary matters, and terminations.
• Coach leaders through complex people matters and difficult conversations.
• Lead workplace investigations and ensure procedural fairness and compliance.
• Support probation reviews, performance improvement plans, and redundancy processes.

Organisational Development & Culture

• Drive initiatives that enhance employee engagement, culture, wellbeing, and organisational effectiveness.
• Support learning and development programs.
• Foster a positive, inclusive, and high-performing workplace culture.
• Contribute to employee experience, recognition, and wellbeing initiatives.

People Operations & Payroll 

• Ensure efficient delivery of operational HR services.
• Improve HR systems, processes, reporting, and service delivery.
• Partner closely with Payroll to ensure employment changes, classifications, remuneration adjustments, and employment conditions are managed accurately and compliantly.
• Provide advice on Modern Awards, employment legislation, contract variations, and employee entitlements.

Policy, Governance & Reporting

• Develop and review HR policies, procedures, and employment documentation.
• Monitor legislative developments and compliance obligations.
• Prepare workforce analytics and reports for leadership.

About You

You are an experienced HR professional who enjoys balancing strategic thinking with hands-on problem solving. You are approachable, resilient, commercially minded, and capable of building strong relationships across all levels of an organisation.

You bring:

• A tertiary qualification in Human Resources, Employment Relations, Business, Law, or a related discipline.
• Preferably a minimum of 8 years’ experience in HR Business Partnering, Employee Relations, or a similar senior HR role.
• Strong experience managing complex employee relations matters and workplace investigations.
• Excellent knowledge of the Fair Work Act, National Employment Standards, Modern Awards, and employment legislation.
• Experience partnering with senior leaders and coaching managers.
• Experience supervising or mentoring HR team members.
• Outstanding communication, relationship-building, and stakeholder management skills.
• A positive, resilient, and solutions-focused approach.
• Strong analytical skills, sound judgement, and a high level of professionalism.

Highly Regarded

• Experience within Higher Education, Vocational Education and Training (VET), or other regulated environments.
• Knowledge of TEQSA and ASQA requirements.
• Experience using Employment Hero or similar HRIS platforms.
