About the role
EL DEGE Plating Pty Ltd is seeking a Chrome Plater to join our busy metal finishing, plating and chroming workshop at our new facility in Caboolture, Queensland. We specialise in high-quality decorative, protective and corrosion-resistant finishes for automotive parts, motorcycle parts, architectural fittings, industrial components, restoration pieces and specialist customer-owned metal components.
This is a permanent or part-time workshop-based role suited to a reliable, hands-on Chrome Plating professional who takes pride in producing consistent, high-quality finishes. The successful applicant will work closely with the Workshop Manager and Polisher/s to prepare, plate, inspect and finish customer components to specification.
About the Role
As a Chrome Plater, you will use electrical current and chemical solutions to coat metal components with a thin layer of another metal. Your work will help enhance durability, prevent corrosion and provide decorative finishes that meet customer expectations and workplace quality standards.
You will be responsible for preparing, cleaning, plating, inspecting and finishing metal components in accordance with customer specifications, production requirements, workplace procedures and Australian Work Health and Safety expectations.
Key Responsibilities
Prepare metal components for chrome plating by cleaning, degreasing, polishing, masking, racking and inspecting parts before processing;
Operate chrome plating tanks, rectifiers, rinsing stations and related workshop equipment safely and effectively;
Use electrical current and chemical solutions to deposit metal coatings onto customer components for protective, corrosion-resistant or decorative finishes;
Monitor plating times, current settings, solution levels, temperatures and process conditions in line with workplace procedures;
Inspect components before, during and after plating to confirm coverage, adhesion, appearance, thickness and overall finish quality;
Handle a range of customer components, including automotive parts, motorcycle parts, architectural fittings, industrial components and restoration pieces;
Work from job cards, customer instructions, samples, drawings or supervisor and management directions to achieve the required finish;
Identify defects, contamination, poor adhesion, burning, dullness or other issues that may affect the final finish and report concerns promptly;
Assist with solution maintenance, filtration, testing, waste handling, packing and general metal finishing tasks when required and authorised;
Maintain tools, tanks, racks, equipment and work areas in a clean, safe and organised condition; and
Support production targets while maintaining workmanship, safety, environmental and customer quality standards.
Skills, Experience and Attributes
Previous experience in chrome plating, metal finishing, plating, restoration, manufacturing or a similar workshop environment is required;
Good understanding of surface preparation, chemical handling, chrome plating processes and quality inspection;
Ability to produce consistent protective, corrosion-resistant or decorative metal finishes with strong attention to detail and pride in workmanship;
Confident use of workshop tools, plating equipment, racks, rectifiers and measuring or inspection equipment where required;
Ability to follow instructions, job cards, production priorities and safety procedures;
Sound awareness of chemical safety, PPE, electrical safety, ventilation, manual handling and environmental risks;
Physically capable of standing for extended periods and handling customer-owned metal parts safely and carefully; and
Reliable, punctual and able to work both independently and as part of a team.
What We Offer
Permanent or part-time opportunity available for the right experienced candidate;
Negotiable wage for the right candidate;
Hands-on workshop role with a busy and established chrome plating business;
Opportunity to develop further skills in plating, chroming and specialist metal finishing; and
Varied work across automotive parts, motorcycle parts, architectural fittings, industrial components, restoration pieces and specialist customer-owned metal components.
