Coordinator of IBDP Core

The Coordinator of the IBDP Core is an important leadership role in the School, providing pedagogical and curriculum leadership within the Senior School, building capacity in teachers in relation to their connection to the Core and ensuring IB students’ successful engagement with the Core of the Diploma Programme.

About the Role

In 2027, the Coordinator of the IBDP Core will lead development and enhancement of students’ understanding and critical thinking skills in Theory of Knowledge (TOK) and assist students to engage in innovative research during their final years of secondary schooling through their work on the Extended Essay (EE). From 2028 the Coordinator the IBDP Core will include the development of understanding of Creativity-Activity-Service (CAS).

Key Responsibilities include:

• Through active leadership, promote a rich understanding of the Core of the IBDP, including developing strong understanding of the aims and objectives of the Core in the School generally and at relevant parent/student information sessions.
• Work with the Head of IBDP to develop the IBDP student induction programme.
• Ensure that IBDP students and staff are clearly informed about and understand the programmes’ objectives, assessment standards and requirements, including record keeping and the submission of work and grades.
• Lead the development of key teaching materials that will be relevant to the broad range of teachers with varied skill sets who will be teaching or supervising the elements of the Core.
• Assist the Head of IBDP with the induction and evaluation of all new IBDP teachers, but especially those involved in the teaching of ToK or supervision of EE. 
• Develop a program of support for teachers who are new to teaching ToK with relevant training and resources.  

About You

The successful candidate will be a highly skilled and experienced educator who will be able to make a significant academic leadership contribution to the whole School.

You will bring:

• The ability to empathise with and manage the complex demands of an ELC – Year 12 school environment. 
• An exceptional problem-solving approach with strong lateral thinking skills and a solutions-focussed mindset. 
• Efficient administration, able to work well under the pressure of deadlines while keeping senior leaders briefed on progress and potential challenges.
• Be aware of a range of timetable packages and be able to use them if required. 
• The ability to demonstrate skills in people management with staff, students and parents, and have excellent communication skills.
