About the role
The Peer Support Hub is looking for Peer Support Workers across Australia to join our new online peer support platform.
We connect people seeking support with workers who bring genuine lived experience and an understanding of what it can be like to face difficult periods in life.
This is an independent contractor opportunity, providing one-to-one peer support sessions online. You choose the availability that works for you, and clients can find and book with you through The Peer Support Hub.
About the role
As a Peer Support Worker, you will use your lived experience, empathy and interpersonal skills to provide safe, respectful and person-centred support.
Sessions are focused on connection, encouragement, hope and shared understanding. The role is not about diagnosing people or providing clinical treatment. It is about drawing appropriately on lived experience to support another person in their own recovery or wellbeing journey.
What we offer
Work remotely from anywhere with a reliable internet connection
Choose your own availability
One-to-one online peer support sessions
Clients book through The Peer Support Hub
Booking, payment and appointment systems provided
Build your own profile on the platform
$50 per completed 50-minute peer support session
Be part of a new Australian peer support service from launch
We'd like to hear from people who
Have relevant lived experience they can draw upon safely and appropriately
Have completed formal lived experience or peer support training
Understand the principles, ethics and boundaries of peer support
Communicate warmly and respectfully
Can work independently and reliably
Are comfortable providing support online
Have, or are willing to obtain, the required checks and documentation
Previous experience working as a Peer Support Worker is highly regarded. Experience in mental health, alcohol and other drugs, community services or other lived-experience settings is also valued.
We welcome applications from people with diverse lived experiences, backgrounds and communities, including culturally and linguistically diverse and LGBTQIA+ communities, and people with lived experience of disability, mental health, alcohol and other drugs, or the criminal justice system. These experiences can provide valuable insight when supporting others with similar experiences. Having a criminal history does not automatically exclude an applicant; suitability is assessed case by case with appropriate screening and client safety in mind.
Requirements
Successful applicants will need to provide:
Evidence of formal lived experience / peer support training
Australian Business Number (ABN), or willingness to obtain one before onboarding
National Police Check, or willingness to obtain one before onboarding
Working with Children Check, or willingness to obtain one before onboarding
CV/resume
Appropriate technology and a private environment for online sessions
About The Peer Support Hub
The Peer Support Hub is an Australian social enterprise created to make professional lived-experience peer support easier to find and access.
Rather than assigning clients to a worker, our platform allows people to browse Peer Support Worker profiles and choose someone whose lived experience, background and approach feels right for them.
If you believe your lived experience, formal peer support training and ability to connect with others could help someone feel understood, supported and less alone, we'd love to hear from you.
