About the role
We are seeking a Disability Support Worker to join our team at Hability in Newcastle, Lake Macquarie, Maitland and Port Stephens NSW.
This is a casual role with full time prospects after six months of service and completion of training, offering the flexibility to work hours that suit your lifestyle. As a Disability Support Worker, you will be responsible for providing personalised care and support to individuals with a range of intellectual and psychosocial disabilities, with a focus on behaviour support and capacity building.
What you'll be doing
Assisting participants with complex behaviour support needs at home with activities of daily living such as personal care, meal preparation, as well as supporting them to access the community and increased social engagement opportunities
Implementing therapeutic programs and activities tailored to our participants' individual needs and goals
Providing emotional support to clients and assist them to increase their emotion regulation skills and broaden their opportunities to increase their social skills
Documenting client progress towards their goals and maintaining accurate records
Collaborating with Hability's clinical care team and external clinical and health care providers to ensure a coordinated and holistic approach to delivery of tailored support plans
Adhering to all relevant policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements
What we're looking for
A relevant qualification in Disability, Community Services, or a related field or working towards
Experience working with individuals with a range of disabilities, including experience in providing care within a positive behaviour support model – or a willingness to learn
Strong written and oral communication and interpersonal skills
Flexible, confident and resilient mind set and a willingness to build rapport with clients over time
Patience, empathy, and a genuine passion for supporting people with complex support needs
A current First Aid certificate and a valid driver's licence
A commitment to providing high-quality, person-centred care that promotes participant choice and control at all times
Eligible to work in Australia with valid work rights or appropriate visa status
