About Us:

We are a growing hospitality group operating five venues across Brisbane and the Moreton Bay region: Arbour Restaurant & Bar and Riverside Cafe & Bar in South Bank, CONA Cafe CBD in Brisbane CBD, CONA Cafe North Lakes in North Lakes, and Indian Moments in Mango Hill. Across the group, we employ approximately 65 people in kitchen, front-of-house, venue management and operational roles.

The Company Accountant will be a full-time, onsite member of the group’s internal finance function, providing centralised accounting support and financial oversight across all five venues. The role will support the directors and venue managers with timely financial information, while working closely with the group’s external accounting practice on year-end accounts, taxation and statutory lodgements.

Required Qualifications:

• A bachelor’s degree with a major in Accounting or Accountancy, or a Recognised equivalent qualification, obtained through formal study at an Australian university.
• Current enrolment in, or a demonstrated commitment to undertake, the CPA or CA professional program.

Required Experience:

• A minimum of four years of post-qualification accounting experience.
• At least two years of experience as a Financial Accountant or Company Accountant, or in a comparable professional accounting position.
• Previous accounting experience within an Australian corporate or commercial environment.
• Experience working within a multi-entity group or an organisation operating through multiple trading entities, business divisions or locations.
• Previous accounting experience within the hospitality, hotel, restaurant, food and beverage or another high-volume, venue-based industry.
• Experience working as part of an internal finance function while coordinating with external accountants, auditors or registered tax agents.

Required Skills:

• Advanced Microsoft Excel skills, including PivotTables, XLOOKUP/VLOOKUP, SUMIFS, data validation and analysis of large financial datasets.
• Strong proficiency in cloud-based accounting systems, including Xero, NetSuite or a comparable financial management platform.
• Experience with Google Sheets and Google Workspace.
• Strong multi-entity accounting skills, including intercompany reconciliations, cost allocation and entity-level reporting.
• Strong management accounting skills, particularly budgeting, forecasting, cost analysis and variance analysis.
• Strong financial reporting skills and sound knowledge of applicable Australian Accounting Standards.
• Sound technical knowledge of GST, BAS/IAS, FBT, payroll tax, superannuation and Australian financial record-keeping requirements.
• Ability to interpret hospitality performance indicators, including labour-cost percentages, cost of goods sold, gross margins, supplier costs and venue profitability.
• Strong attention to detail, numerical accuracy and ability to identify unusual transactions or discrepancies.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to explain financial information to directors, operational managers and external advisers.
• Strong time-management and prioritisation skills, with the ability to manage multiple entities, reporting deadlines and competing financial responsibilities.

Proposed tasks:

1. Budgeting and accounting policy: Assist the directors to formulate annual budgets, rolling forecasts and practical accounting policies; maintain entity and venue reporting structures, account classifications and month-end timetables.

2. Financial statements and management reporting: Prepare monthly, quarterly and year-end financial statements and management packs for the directors, including entity- and venue-level profit and loss statements, balance sheets, cash-flow reports, budget variances and combined group-level management analysis

3. Financial investigations, audit support and special projects: Investigate material variances, irregular transactions, suspected control breaches and other financial issues; prepare findings for management; produce audit and year-end schedules; and support due diligence, financing or business acquisition work when required, in liaison with external accountants and advisers.

4. Operating cost and revenue analysis: Examine income and expenditure across all venues, including food and beverage margins, labor ratios, supplier spend, rent, delivery-platform commissions and other operating costs. Reconcile POS, EFTPOS, cash and third-party sales channels, payroll expenses and inter-entity balances or recharges.

5. Accuracy and statutory compliance: Review general-ledger integrity, balance-sheet reconciliations, journals, accruals, accounts payable and receivable, payroll interfaces and GST classifications. Perform internal checks to verify that management reports are accurate and that financial records comply with applicable Australian Accounting Standards and statutory record-keeping requirements.

6. Financial and taxation input: Advise management on the financial implications of business plans, pricing, staffing, venue performance and operating structures. Identify taxation or structuring issues requiring specialist advice and prepare the financial analysis needed by the external accountant or registered tax agent.

7. Tax and statutory workpapers: Prepare draft BAS/IAS, FBT, payroll tax and income-tax return workpapers, account reconciliations and supporting schedules for external review and lodgment. Track compliance deadlines and resolve source-data queries promptly.

8. Banking and funds management: Liaise with banks, merchant service providers and brokers regarding accounts, payment facilities, cash-management arrangements and approved funding matters; maintain short- and medium-term cash-flow forecasts across the entities.

9. Accounting systems: Introduce, maintain and improve cloud accounting and reporting systems, including integration of accounting, payroll, POS and other venue data; manage chart-of-account design, access settings, reporting workflows and documented procedures.

10. Internal controls: Design, maintain and test controls over purchasing, supplier setup, payment approvals, cash handling, banking, payroll changes, inventory-related financial records and inter-entity transactions; recommend and implement corrective action.

11. Capital investment and financial risk: Appraise cash flow, funding needs and financial risk for fit-outs, equipment purchases, lease commitments and new venue projects; monitor approved capital expenditure and complete post-investment performance reviews.

Proposed Annual Earnings for the position: $100,000 - $110,000 per year plus superannuation
