Service Volunteer and Community Leader

Our Southwest campus team are currently looking for a Service Volunteer and Community Leader to join the team. This role will be responsible for creating and leading engaging, Spirit-filled church service communities that foster spiritual growth, belonging and are empowering for those who call Hillsong Church home. This role provides pastoral leadership to service volunteer teams, the service leadership and special events that ensures a welcoming and inclusive environment for all attendees.

Other aspects of this role include:

SERVICE VOLUNTEERS

Focus on the growth, recruitment, support, training, and holistic development of a healthy volunteer culture.

• Oversee Service Leadership Teams by identifying needs, recruiting, and inspiring volunteers to grow overall numbers.
• Build a volunteer leadership pipeline that fosters spiritual growth, belonging, and ongoing development.
• Organise regular volunteer training sessions and implement feedback systems to support continuous improvement.
• Model a volunteer-led culture where service, ownership, and initiative are encouraged and celebrated. Coordinate and empower volunteer teams across all ministry areas.

SERVICE COMMUNITY LEADERSHIP

Focus on identifying, supporting, and galvanizing key leaders who are empowered to lead teams, and ensuring a strong, culturally aligned core team for each service.

• Provide leadership and vision for your allocated service in alignment with campus direction, ensuring a strong culturally aligned key team for each service.
• Develop and coach emerging volunteer leaders, creating pathways that empower them to step into leadership within service community.
• Support congregation members through key faith milestones (e.g., baptisms, baby dedications) and provide pastoral care pathways for new volunteers, newcomers, and new believers.

SERVICE COMMUNITY EVENTS

Focus on fostering belonging and relationship within a large church beyond the standard Sunday service.

• Lead initiatives and gatherings designed to build community, connection, and deep relationships outside of regular weekly services.
• Leverage special events as intentional touchpoints as a pathway to community, helping attendees transition from weekend service active into being planted in the church community.
• Lead and coordinate volunteer teams specific to community special events with a heart of hospitality, warmth, and shared ownership.

ADMINISTRATION & REPORTING

• Ensure PCO records for ministry and volunteer areas are current in collaboration with staff and key teams.
• Develop and maintain pastoral care records for the community.
• Respond to and report safety concerns in collaboration with the Safe Church team and campus leadership.
• Develop and maintain workflows for the discipleship pathways team.
• Submit weekly summary reports to the Campus Pastor.

Ideally, the successful candidate will bring:

• A formal qualification in Theology, Ministry, or a related field (Diploma level or higher) desirable.
• Experience in planning and facilitating workshops, courses, and large-scale volunteer gatherings.
• Knowledge of modern discipleship models and experience applying them in a local church context.
• Demonstrated experience in pastoral ministry, with the ability to disciple others, lead teams, and provide spiritual care and oversight.
• Proven ability to lead, develop, and manage staff and volunteer teams, creating a culture of growth, service, and support.
