About the role
Post Graduate Midwifery Student – Employed and Supernumerary Program 2027
NB – This advertisement is for Registered Nurses who are applying for an employed or supernumerary placement to complete midwifery studies in partnership with LaTrobe in 2027 to qualify as a midwife.
The Royal Women’s Hospital is Australia’s first and largest tertiary hospital dedicated to improving the health and wellbeing of women and newborns, offering specialised services within maternity, neonatal and women’s health. Our goal is to be the best place to work, grow and contribute, and to provide exceptional experiences for our patients and consumers.
About our Post Graduate Midwifery Clinical Placements Program 2027
The Women’s provides clinical placements for Registered Nurses completing postgraduate midwifery studies to qualify and practice as a midwife.
Our postgraduate midwifery students are a valuable part of our team and our clinical placement rotations cover a diverse range of midwifery practice. Our highly experienced Clinical Support Midwives (CSMs) will work with you to support your learning journey through orientation, direct clinical support, clinical tutorials and regular debriefing sessions.
Post Graduate midwifery placements at the Women’s are either supernumerary* unpaid or employed. Students are rostered a minimum of three days a week to complete their clinical requirements or employed. For further information please review the attached FAQ’s.
*Supernumerary means that you will be rostered in addition to the Registered Midwives in the clinical areas to maximise your clinical experience and meet your clinical objectives.
In 2027 approximately six (6) employed post-graduate positions will be available (subject to government funding). The remaining places (6) are supernumerary (unpaid).
The Women’s works in partnership with La Trobe University to provide midwifery clinical placements for its Graduate Diploma in Midwifery program each year. Further information about the Graduate Diploma in Midwifery studies can be found on the La Trobe University website.
