About the role
The Role
As a freelance infrastructure finance reporter based in Sydney, you will produce high-quality, exclusive journalism on infrastructure investment activity across Australia and the Asia-Pacific region.
The role will focus on producing on-and-off record market intelligence focused on greenfield project finance, new project developments, public-private partnerships (PPP’s), infrastructure fund strategies, as well as break news on M&A and debt transactions — always ahead of public announcements. You will deliver both real-time reporting and deeper analysis for institutional investors, lenders, developers, and advisory firms.

Key Responsibilities
Produce a consistent pipeline of exclusive articles and analysis on infrastructure finance transactions and investment trends in Australia and APACBreak news on project finance deals, M&A processes, debt/equity fundraising, and secondary market activityBuild and maintain a strong regional network of sources including:Project developers and sponsorsInfrastructure and pension fundsBanks and private credit investorsGovernment stakeholders and policymakersLegal and financial advisorsInterview senior decision-makers, including C-suite executives, fund managers and originatorsAttend key industry conferences, investor days and market events across Australia and Asia-PacificDeliver timely, accurate reporting under deadline pressureProvide forward-looking insight on policy shifts, regulatory developments and market dynamicsCollaborate with editors, analysts and other contributors where relevant

Required Skills, Experience And Qualifications
Proven experience in financial journalism, ideally covering infrastructure finance, energy or project finance marketsStrong track record of breaking exclusive stories and developing proprietary anglesEstablished network of sources across Australian and/or APAC infrastructure marketsSolid understanding of:Project finance and PPP structuresDebt and equity capital marketsAustralian infrastructure policy and regulatory environmentExcellent written and spoken EnglishHighly self-motivated, proactive and persistent in sourcing storiesAbility to work independently with minimal supervisionWillingness to travel across Australia and APAC for key industry events
Remuneration
This is a freelance position, with compensation structured on a per published article basis, with rates agreed in advance depending on the nature, exclusivity and complexity of the contentPre-approved expenses incurred in the course of reporting — including travel to conferences, industry events, and interviews — will be reimbursed in line with agreed guidelinesAdditional opportunities may be available for longer-form features, special reports, or commissioned analysis, subject to editorial requirementsSuccess candidates will be expected to sign a Confidential Non-Compete Agreement prior to commencement of work
