About the role
The Sunbury Basketball Association (SBA) is seeking a passionate, organised and people-focused Technical Officials Development Officer to support the growth, development and retention of our referee community.
This is an exciting opportunity to play a key role in strengthening SBA’s officiating program, ensuring our technical officials are supported, developed and provided with clear pathways to progress from local competitions through to VJBL and BigV opportunities.
The role is responsible for the coordination and administration of referee appointments across SBA competitions, using Refbook to deliver accurate, fair and conflict-free rostering. You will work closely with referee supervisors to manage weekly appointments, respond to availability changes, monitor attendance and ensure referees are appropriately matched to games based on their experience and development needs.
A key focus of the position is official development. You will plan and facilitate Basketball Victoria-approved courses, on-court assessments, workshops and ongoing education opportunities. You will also coordinate referee evaluations and provide recommendations around finals appointments, course upgrades and potential Basketball Victoria pathway opportunities.
The successful applicant will build strong relationships with referees, coaches, volunteers, SBA staff, clubs and Basketball Victoria. You will be the key contact for appointment-related enquiries and play an important role in mentoring officials, improving retention and creating a positive and supportive officiating environment.
We are looking for someone with excellent organisation, communication and administration skills, strong attention to detail and the ability to work under pressure and meet strict deadlines. Experience in referee rostering, sports administration or knowledge of Basketball Victoria’s officiating pathways is highly regarded. Referee coaching accreditation, or a willingness to obtain it, is essential.
This is a hands-on role suited to someone who enjoys working with people, solving problems and making a genuine difference to the sporting community.
If you are passionate about basketball, committed to developing officials and ready to help shape the future of officiating at SBA, we want to hear from you!
