Junior Maintenance Fitter / Technician - Food Manufacturing

About the role

Working alongside our Lead Maintenance Fitter, you'll help keep our production equipment running reliably while developing your skills across preventative maintenance, breakdowns, machine improvements and general mechanical work. Our Lead Maintenance & Production Supervisor works from approximately 6:00am–2:30pm, while this role will generally work 10:00am–6:00pm, providing an overlap for training and larger maintenance jobs while extending maintenance coverage across our production day.

Key responsibilities

• Assisting with preventative and scheduled maintenance across production equipment

• Responding to production breakdowns and mechanical issues

• Working alongside our Lead Fitter to diagnose and repair machinery

• Working with bearings, belts, chains, sprockets, rollers, conveyors, motors and other mechanical components

• Machine setup, adjustments and changeovers

• Basic fabrication, welding and modifications where capable

• Assisting with the installation and commissioning of new equipment

• Identifying opportunities to improve equipment reliability and production efficiency

• Maintaining workshop areas, tools and maintenance equipment

• Recording maintenance work and recurring equipment issues

• Mechanically minded, practical and keen to learn

• Enjoys understanding how machinery works

• Comfortable working with their hands

• Can diagnose problems logically rather than simply replacing parts

• Takes pride in fixing things properly

• Reliable and comfortable working independently

• Wants to learn from an experienced fitter

• Interested in developing a long-term career in manufacturing maintenance

• Understands that production uptime matters and responds accordingly

• Experience with welding, fabrication, electrical fault finding, pneumatics, food manufacturing or packaging machinery would be advantageous but isn't essential
