Senior Business Analyst

• Employment Type: Full time, continuing position.
• Remuneration: Level 9 – from $153,933 + 17% superannuation and leave loading.
• Location: Kensington, NSW (Full time on-site role)

About the Role

Operating within the Enterprise Data Office (EDO), the Senior Business Analyst leads high-impact analysis across University-wide projects, partnering with senior stakeholders to deliver scalable data solutions aligned with UNSW’s strategic goals. The role defines business requirements, optimizes processes, and shapes data strategy to deliver practical institutional outcomes.

As an influential advisor on business and tech decisions, the role mentors junior analysts and elevates analysis standards across UNSW.

Reporting to the Director of Data Transformation, this position carries no direct supervisory responsibilities.

Role and Responsibilities

The successful applicant will possess and have experience in:

• Lead end-to-end business analysis for complex, enterprise-level initiatives, driving problem identification, business case development, solution design, validation of testing inputs & outputs and post-implementation reviews.
• Interpret complex data and analytics to identify key insights, translating technical findings into clear, compelling narratives that inform stakeholder decision-making.
• Partner with senior stakeholders to define strategic requirements, assess impacts, and align business and technology outcomes with broader institutional goals.
• Design "as-is" and "to-be" process models and solution architectures across multi-system data domains and functional units.
• Collaborate with technical teams, solution architects, and testers to guide options analysis, feasibility studies, and robust user acceptance testing.
• Establish business analysis standards, toolsets, and quality practices while mentoring peer analysts across project workstreams.
• Identify and shape opportunities to use generative AI and automation to improve the quality, consistency and timeliness of reporting and other business processes.
• Ensure all activities strictly comply with University values, Code of Conduct guidelines, and health, safety, and risk management standards.

About You

• Tertiary qualification in a relevant discipline combined with extensive experience as a Business Analyst leading strategic, enterprise-scale initiatives within large, complex environments.
• Proven track record operating across varied delivery frameworks (Agile, Waterfall, Hybrid), with high-level expertise in process mapping, data analysis, requirements elicitation, and solution evaluation.
• Strong background in business case development, vendor selection, procurement processes, and the implementation of enterprise platforms, CRMs, ERPs, or integration systems.
• Advanced analytical and problem-solving capabilities, with demonstrated leadership in mentoring peer analysts and elevating quality standards across delivery teams.
• Exceptional communication, negotiation, and facilitation skills, enabling effective collaboration with diverse groups from technical teams to executive sponsors.
• Experience delivering data discovery or information governance initiatives. Confidence using generative AI tools such as ChatGPT to support analysis and delivery.
• Demonstrated experience integrating large language models into automated workflows, particularly to improve reporting quality and delivery time, will be highly regarded.
• Experience with agentic AI frameworks, orchestration tools or reusable agent workflows, such as Hermes Agent or equivalent, would be advantageous.
• Working knowledge of emerging AI capabilities and their business applications, with the ability to identify opportunities for AI-driven innovation and contribute to the assessment, adoption, and governance of AI-enabled solutions.
• Advanced proficiency in Jira and MS Suite of products with proven experience leveraging these platforms to manage requirements, document business processes, facilitate stakeholder engagement, maintain project artefacts, and support Agile and hybrid project delivery environments.
• Thorough understanding of safety standards (both physical and psychosocial), institutional values, and compliance policies in line with organizational guidelines.
