About the role

We are seeking a Junior Tax Accountant to join our public practice team at our Travancore office in Victoria. This is a full-time position offering an excellent opportunity to develop your taxation expertise within a professional accounting practice. The Junior Tax Accountant will play a vital role in delivering quality tax services to our clients, supporting the delivery of tax compliance work, tax planning advice, and business consultancy services. This position is perfect for someone looking to build a strong foundation in taxation and advance their career within the accounting profession.

Key responsibilities

• Prepare and lodge tax returns for individual and business clients, ensuring accuracy and compliance with Australian Taxation Office requirements

• Bookkeeping and payroll services

• Conduct tax research and analysis to identify tax planning opportunities and provide recommendations to clients

• Maintain detailed working papers and tax documentation in accordance with firm standards and regulatory requirements

• Review financial statements and accounting records to identify discrepancies and ensure accurate tax reporting

• Assist senior tax accountants with complex tax matters, including capital gains, investment income, and business deductions

• Communicate with clients to gather necessary financial information and clarify tax positions

• Stay current with changes to tax legislation and regulations to ensure compliance and identify new opportunities

• Support the delivery of tax advisory services and business consultancy to clients

• Contribute to the development of tax planning strategies for individual and small business clients

What we're looking for

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Commerce, or a related field

• Completion of, or significant progress towards, the CPA or CA qualification

• Strong knowledge of Australian tax law and taxation principles

• Proficiency with accounting software, including MYOB and Xero (or similar platforms)

• Excellent attention to detail and accuracy in financial and tax documentation

• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to research complex tax issues

• Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, to effectively interact with clients and colleagues

• Ability to manage multiple client files and deadlines in a fast-paced environment

• A professional demeanour with strong ethical standards and integrity

• Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, particularly Excel

• Previous experience in tax accounting or accounting practice is highly desirable
