About the role

We are seeking a talented Accountant in Public Practice to join our growing team at our Armadale, Victoria office. This is a full-time position that will play a crucial role in delivering high-quality accounting and taxation services to our valued client base. As an Accountant in Public Practice, you will be at the heart of our operations, providing comprehensive support across a variety of client accounts whilst contributing to the strategic objectives of M2 Advisory. This role offers the opportunity to work with diverse clients, develop your technical expertise, and establish yourself as a trusted advisor in the accounting and taxation field.

Key responsibilities

• Prepare and lodge tax returns for individual, partnership, and corporate clients

• Perform financial statement preparation and accounts compilation for clients

• Conduct tax planning and strategy advice to optimise client tax positions

• Provide bookkeeping and accounts management support to clients

• Ensure compliance with relevant taxation legislation, Australian Accounting Standards, and professional obligations

• Liaise with clients to gather financial information and resolve queries in a timely and professional manner

• Maintain accurate records and meet strict deadlines for client deliverables

• Contribute to the development of client relationships and identify opportunities for service expansion

• Stay current with taxation law changes and accounting standards updates

• Support the audit and assurance function where required

What we're looking for

• Formal qualification in accounting (e.g., CPA, CA, IPA or equivalent tertiary qualification in accounting)

• Demonstrable experience working in public practice accounting or taxation

• Strong technical knowledge of taxation principles, GST, PAYG withholding, and superannuation

• Proficiency with accounting software (such as Handisoft, XERO, MYOB, or similar platforms)

• Excellent attention to detail with the ability to manage multiple client accounts simultaneously

• Strong communication and client relationship management skills

• Ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative team

• High level of integrity and commitment to professional ethics and confidentiality

• Problem-solving skills and proactive approach to identifying client needs

• Familiarity with Australian taxation law and current tax compliance requirements
