About the role
OPPORTUNITY TO WORK FOR AUSTRALIA’S LEADING LAYER BREEDER
Specialised Breeders Australia (SBA) is Australia’s leading layer breeder and producer of day-old-chicks and point-of-lay pullets. We are an ISO 9001-2015 accredited organisation with a strong quality and customer focus. With an increase in growth opportunities and biosecurity requirements we are seeking a production supervisor to support our Lohmann parent manager in Central Victoria. Bendigo is the closest regional city with plenty of available shopping, schools, community resources, TAFE and university.
As the successful person you will bring a competent set of skills and experience to support quality production and supervise team members. In addition to having the required poultry experience you must be excellent with people and able to bring out the best in individual performance. Experience within a compliance environment will be highly regarded (e.g. quality, biosecurity, animal welfare, safety, etc.).
This is a salaried role with an annual performance bonus available. SBA provides all required uniform and work equipment, and an Employee Assistance Program is available to staff and their immediate family members. Days of work can be negotiated with an understanding that regular farm on-call work will form part of the agreement.
Key Responsibilities:
• Adhering to SBA’s flock management program and procedures.
• Adhering to SBA’s Quality Management System.
• Maintaining and monitoring biosecurity and animal welfare standards.
• Supervision of a small team.
Duties:
• Promote a positive workplace culture and bring out the best in your team.
• Provide direction and training to workers, ensuring that the standards and objectives set by management are achieved.
• Shed checks to ensure bird welfare at all times.
• Respond to emergency maintenance requests, referring issues promptly as required.
• Maintain a safe working environment.
• Out-of-hours on-call duties as rostered or required.
• Comply with company policy and procedures and be a positive role model.
Personal skills and attributes required:
• You must have 2-3 years of experience in a production environment and either have or be willing to obtain a Certificate III in Poultry Production (SBA will support and pay for this certificate if you do not already have it).
• Reliability: you will be responsible for day-to-day operations and staff in your area on your days of work and will provide leave coverage to the Farm Manager.
• You must be able to follow the direction of the Farm Manager and SBA’s quality manual.
• You will need the strength of character to support a positive workplace culture.
• Your positive communication skills will also encourage feedback from your team and provide clear direction back to your team.
• Experience with supervising people, whether in a workplace or voluntary capacity.
Remuneration: Salaried, minimum 38 hours per week. On-call payment when required to be on-call.
Relevant information:
• You must have unrestricted working rights in Australia.
• Employees cannot keep birds or pigs at their place of residence or live with someone working in these industries.
• The successful individual will need to have satisfactorily completed a reference check and pre-employment medical prior to receiving a formal job offer.
• A current, Victorian driver’s licence is required for this role along with reliable transport to get to and from work.
• Reasonable overtime is part of this role and forms part of the negotiated salary.
To Apply:
Submit your résumé and a cover letter, which should give a good outline of why you believe you are the right person for the job. If you have questions or would like a position description, please email Brigitte at hrmanager@sbaaus.com.au.
Applications will be reviewed as they are received.
