Position Purpose

The Operations & Estimating Manager plays a key role in the continued growth of Healey Services Group.

This position is responsible for identifying, pricing and securing new commercial plumbing projects while ensuring projects are efficiently prepared for delivery once awarded.

Working closely with the Directors, Site Supervisors, clients and suppliers, this role combines estimating, procurement, project coordination and client relationship management.

The role is ideally suited to an experienced commercial plumber or Leading Hand or who understands commercial construction and is looking to transition into an office-based leadership position.

Key Responsibilities

Estimating & Business Development

• Review tender invitations and project documentation.

• Attend site inspections where required.

• Prepare accurate plumbing estimates and quotations.

• Complete quantity take-offs from drawings and specifications.

• Liaise with builders, consultants and engineers regarding tender clarifications.

• Follow up submitted quotations to maximise conversion rates.

• Maintain a healthy pipeline of future opportunities.

• Develop and maintain strong relationships with existing commercial builders.

• Identify opportunities with new builders and contractors.

Project Coordination

Once projects are awarded:

• Coordinate project handover from estimating to construction.

• Prepare project budgets and procurement schedules.

• Source competitive pricing from suppliers and subcontractors.

• Order materials in line with project requirements.

• Coordinate labour requirements with Directors and Supervisors.

• Assist with programming and project scheduling.

• Monitor project costs against budgets.

• Assist in managing project variations.

• Ensure projects are set up efficiently before construction begins.

Supplier & Procurement Management

• Build and maintain relationships with suppliers.

• Negotiate competitive pricing.

• Review material costs regularly.

• Source alternative products where appropriate.

• Assist with inventory and purchasing systems.

• Identify cost-saving opportunities without compromising quality.

Client Relationship Management

• Maintain regular communication with commercial builders.

• Respond promptly to client enquiries.

• Provide exceptional customer service throughout the project lifecycle.

• Assist in resolving project issues professionally.

• Build & maintain long-term client relationships that generate repeat work.

Operational Support

• Assist Directors with workflow planning.

• Monitor project progress and resource allocation.

• Support site teams with technical advice when required.

• Improve estimating and operational systems.

• Contribute ideas that improve business efficiency and profitability.

Skills & Experience

Essential

• Qualified Plumber.

• Minimum 5-10 years' experience in commercial plumbing.

• Strong understanding of commercial construction.

• Ability to interpret architectural and hydraulic drawings.

• Excellent organisational skills.

• Strong written and verbal communication.

• High level of computer literacy.

• Ability to prioritise multiple projects simultaneously.

• Current Victorian Driver Licence.

Desirable

• Previous experience as a Leading Hand or Site Supervisor.

• Previous estimating experience.

• Experience using estimating or project management software.

• Strong understanding of procurement and supplier management.

• Commercial contract knowledge.
