The Role 

We are seeking an exceptional Quantum Hardware Technical Lead to provide technical leadership for Archer’s quantum computing program and help shape the future of our graphene-based spin qubit platform. 

This is a hands-on leadership role where you will combine deep technical expertise with strategic program ownership. You will work closely with internal engineering teams, foundry partners, academic collaborators, and specialist test and measurement laboratories to define and execute the technology roadmap, drive technical milestones, and accelerate the development of scalable quantum hardware. 

As the technical lead for the program, you will play a critical role in translating cutting-edge research into commercially relevant quantum technologies. 

Key Responsibilities 

Technical Leadership: 

• Lead the technical direction and execution of Archer’s quantum hardware development program. 
• Define, maintain, and communicate the quantum hardware roadmap and development milestones. 
• Drive technical decision-making across device design, fabrication, characterization, and system integration. 
• Mentor and guide engineers, physicists, and collaborators across multidisciplinary teams. 

Quantum Device Development: 

• Design, develop, and optimize spin qubit devices and supporting quantum hardware. 
• Lead experimental programs focused on quantum device characterization, readout, and control. 
• Develop and implement measurement methodologies for cryogenic and quantum device testing. 
• Analyse experimental data and guide device iteration using modelling and simulation tools. 
• Drive improvements in device performance, reproducibility, yield, and scalability. 

External Collaboration & Delivery: 

• Manage technical relationships with semiconductor foundries, research institutions, and specialist laboratory partners. 
• Coordinate fabrication runs, test campaigns, and collaborative development activities. 
• Ensure successful delivery of technical milestones across internal and external stakeholders. 
• Contribute to technical reporting, intellectual property development, and strategic planning activities. 

What You’ll Bring 

• PhD in Physics, Electrical Engineering, Materials Science, Nanotechnology, or a related discipline, or equivalent industry experience. 
• Significant experience developing semiconductor, quantum, or nanoelectronic devices from concept through characterization. 
• Strong experimental background in quantum device measurement and characterization. 
• Experience with cryogenic measurement systems and low-noise electronic measurements. 
• Proficiency in scientific programming and data analysis (Python or equivalent). 
• Demonstrated ability to lead complex technical projects involving multiple stakeholders. 

Highly Desirable 

• Experience with graphene, 2D materials, van der Waals heterostructures, or carbon-based electronic devices. 
• Experience with spin qubit systems and spin-based quantum computing architectures. 
• Experience in semiconductor device fabrication and process development. 
• Experience working with external foundries or semiconductor manufacturing partners. 

Bonus Experience 

• Industry experience transitioning research technologies toward commercial products. 
• Experience building and leading technical teams.
