The Role
Southern Ports is seeking motivated and enthusiastic applicants to join our 2027 Apprenticeship Program at Esperance Port. This four-year apprenticeship offers the opportunity to complete a nationally recognised trade qualification as an Electrician while gaining hands-on experience in a dynamic port environment. Working alongside experienced tradespeople and under the guidance of dedicated supervisors, apprentices will receive practical on-the-job training, mentoring, and structured learning to develop the skills and knowledge required to safely maintain and repair port infrastructure and equipment, preparing them for a successful career in their chosen trade. Key Duties and Responsibilities
Work under supervision to develop and apply electrical trade skills, including installation, testing, maintenance, and repair of electrical systems, equipment, and infrastructure.
Assist qualified electricians with fault-finding, breakdown response, and planned maintenance activities.
Learn to interpret electrical drawings, diagrams, and technical manuals to support safe and effective work outcomes.
Operate tools, plant, and equipment safely in line with manufacturer specifications and Southern Ports standards.
Participate in on-the-job and formal training (RTO), while maintaining accurate records, work orders, and maintenance documentation.
Adhere to all WHS, environmental, and port safety requirements, including risk assessments, permits to work, hazard reporting, and maintaining a safe work environment.
A willingness and ability to travel as required to attend external TAFE blocks and other training opportunities that form part of the apprenticeship program.

To be eligible for this role, applicants must reside in Esperance and provide proof of Australian citizenship or permanent residency.
The successful applicant must:
Have a current Western Australian driver’s licence or working towards one
Be able to obtain and maintain a Maritime Security Identification Card
Pass a pre-employment medical assessment including drug and alcohol testing
Provide a National Police Certificate that is within a 6-month period.
Be prepared to travel for external study requirements as part of completing the apprenticeship qualification.
