About the role
The Yamatji Ranger is responsible for supporting the delivery of Yamatji Southern Regional Corporation's Ranger Services and On Country programs through practical land and marine Country management activities. The role contributes to the protection, conservation and enhancement of natural and cultural values across Yamatji Country, including terrestrial, freshwater, coastal and marine environments, while integrating Traditional Owner knowledge with contemporary environmental management practices. The position undertakes field-based activities that support healthy Country, strong culture and community wellbeing while contributing to biodiversity conservation, cultural heritage protection and sustainable land and marine resource management.
Key responsibilities
Undertake practical land and marine Country management activities in accordance with approved work plans, cultural protocols and organisational procedures.
Participate in ranger patrols, field activities and On Country programs across terrestrial, freshwater, coastal and marine environments.
Assist with the protection, monitoring and restoration of land, coastal and marine ecosystems.
Support biodiversity surveys, environmental monitoring and ecological fieldwork across both land and marine environments.
Participate in weed, feral animal, marine debris, invasive species and biosecurity management activities.
Assist with habitat protection, rehabilitation and restoration projects across terrestrial, coastal and marine areas.
Participate in waterway, wetland, coastal and marine monitoring activities.
Collect, record and maintain accurate field data, photographs, samples and observations in accordance with approved procedures.
Support the protection, monitoring and management of Aboriginal cultural heritage places and values located on land and in marine environments.
Work respectfully with Traditional Owners, Elders and community members while observing cultural protocols.
About you
Demonstrated commitment to caring for Country and protecting cultural and environmental values.
Ability to work respectfully with Traditional Owners, Elders and community members while observing cultural protocols.
Ability to undertake physically demanding outdoor work in remote and challenging environments.
Demonstrated commitment to Work Health and Safety and safe work practices.
Ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team.
Basic computer literacy.
Ability to travel and undertake overnight fieldwork where required.
Desirable: Current C Class Driver's Licence.
Desirable: Certificate III in Conservation and Ecosystem Management or equivalent.
Desirable: Current Senior First Aid Certificate.
