About the Role

Are you an experienced leader in the disability sector who believes people with disability should be the true directors of their own lives? Are you looking for a role that moves away from traditional, rigid service models to focus on real relationships, human rights, and genuine community inclusion?

We are looking for a dynamic, values-led Team Leader to play a lynchpin role in the life of a vibrant local man.

In this role, you won't be working for a traditional disability service provider. You will be employed directly by the man himself, supported by his dedicated Circle of Support (his family and close network) and an intermediary platform that handles the employment administration.

Your mission? To work alongside him to lead, mentor, and coordinate his team of support workers, helping him turn his plans into action and live a rich, active, and fulfilling life as a valued community member.

What You’ll Be Doing

This is a hands-on, varied role combining direct support, team leadership, and administrative coordination:

• Leadership & Coaching: Lead, recruit, train, and mentor a small, dedicated team of support workers driven by human rights principles and person-centered active support.
• Building Connections: Actively coach the team to support the man in building freely given friendships and community connections, reducing his reliance on paid support over time.
• Pursuing Passions: Assist the man to explore his interests—especially his passion for filmmaking—as well as community involvement and income-generating opportunities.
• Operations & Rostering: Manage weekly/monthly rosters, coordinate schedules, manage appointments, and oversee consumables.
• Communication Partnering: Get to know the man deeply, learn his communication style, and model effective communication for the entire team.
• Direct Support & Wellbeing: Provide quality hands-on support (including personal care, mealtime support, and medication management) while liaising with allied health professionals.
• Tech & Innovation: Explore and trial assistive technologies, troubleshoot everyday IT issues, and help the team adopt new tools.

About You

• Strong Leadership Skills: Experience supervising, mentoring, or managing staff (HR/employee management experience is a strong bonus).

• Great Communication: Fantastic listening skills and the ability to act as an empathetic, reliable communication partner.
• Tech Savviness: Good digital literacy, comfort with day-to-day IT troubleshooting, and an interest in assistive technology.
• Practical Care Competencies: Experience (or willingness to be trained) in manual handling, medication management, and mealtime management.
• Reliability & Heart: Punctual, organized, accountable, and driven by a genuine passion for seeing people thrive.
