Primary objective
Provide high quality, culturally sensitive nursing/midwifery care to clients to achieve best patient outcomes.
Context statement
The employed model is an exciting initiative of NT Health and Charles Darwin University. Alice Springs Hospital is offering
Registered Nurses paid employment for two years while undertaking study in the Graduate Diploma of Midwifery through
Charles Darwin University (CDU). Successful applicants must be eligible for employment with NT Health as a registered
nurse and meet CDU enrolment criteria. Successful applicants will have the proven ability to work in a fast-paced acute care
environment and also work within the registered nurse/midwifery student scope of practice. See the applicant information

Selection criteria
Essential
1. Current registration as a Registered Nurse or Registered Midwife with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia.
2. Demonstrated understanding of, and ability to, co-ordinate client care resulting in positive clinical outcomes.
3. Demonstrated written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills to contribute effectively within the
multidisciplinary team.
4. Demonstrated understanding of the social and cultural issues, influences and sensitivities that influence provision of
health care for clients and families.
5. Knowledge and understanding of Continuous Quality Improvement (CQI) principles in a health care setting.
Further information
Ongoing appointment is subject to possession of Graduate Certificate beyond entry-to-practice in relevant specialty area.
The preferred or recommended applicant will be required to hold a current working with children clearance notice and
undergo a criminal history check. A criminal history will not exclude an applicant from this position unless it is relevant to
the position. This role carries specific immunisation requirements. To be eligible for appointment you will be required to
meet the immunisation requirements associated with Category A healthcare workers (direct contact with blood or body
