Tax Accountant/Practice Manager

About the role

Bull & Associates Accountants Pty Ltd is seeking a Tax Accountant/Practice Manager on a contract basis to join our team in Moe, Victoria. This is a pivotal role that combines technical taxation expertise with practice management responsibilities, providing strategic leadership to our accounting operations whilst delivering high-quality tax advisory services to our diverse client base. The successful candidate will play a key role in driving the efficiency and profitability of our practice whilst maintaining the highest standards of professional service.

What you'll be doing

• Prepare and lodge income tax returns for individuals, partnerships, companies and trusts, ensuring compliance with current tax legislation

• Provide strategic tax planning advice to clients, identifying opportunities for tax minimisation and optimisation

• Support the day-to-day operations of the accounting practice as needed, including staff coordination and client relationship management

• Review tax positions, identify risks and provide recommendations to ensure compliance with tax laws and regulations

• Oversee the preparation of financial statements and tax documentation for various entity types

• Liaise with clients to gather necessary financial information and discuss tax strategies and outcomes

• Manage practice workflows, including workload allocation, scheduling and quality control procedures

• Monitor and maintain professional standards, ensuring all work meets industry best practices

• Contribute to business development and client retention strategies

• Stay current with taxation law changes and communicate these to relevant team members and clients

What we're looking for

• Recognised accounting qualification (CPA, CA or equivalent professional designation)

• Minimum 5+ years' experience in taxation, including preparation of tax returns across multiple entity types

• Proven experience in a practice management or supervisory capacity within an accounting firm

• Strong knowledge of current Australian taxation legislation and tax compliance requirements

• Excellent understanding of GST, PAYG, capital gains tax and other key taxation concepts

• Proficiency with accounting software and tax preparation systems (experience with cloud-based platforms is advantageous)

• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with meticulous attention to detail

• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to explain complex tax matters to clients

• Demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities and meet strict deadlines, particularly during tax season

• Leadership qualities and the ability to motivate and develop team members

• Professional approach to confidentiality and client relationship management

• Willingness to engage in continuing professional development and maintain current knowledge of taxation practices
