The Role
The APS 6 Project Officer is responsible for leading and delivering fast-paced ICT and capability enhancement projects within the Military Systems Enhancements Branch. The role oversees project planning, scheduling, risk management, procurement, finance, stakeholder engagement and governance to ensure initiatives are delivered on time, within budget and to quality expectations. It requires strong coordination across cross-functional teams, the ability to produce high quality documentation and briefs, and the skill to guide technical specialists to achieve project outcomes.

This role is eligible for an additional remuneration benefit known in Defence as a Building Defence Capability Payment (BDCP). This enables Defence to provide a premium, in addition to the base salary otherwise payable under the Defence Enterprise Collective Agreement (DECA), for positions in occupational disciplines/classifications that are critical to Defence capability. About our Team
The Military Systems Enhancements Branch works closely with specialist teams across the Defence Digital Group, Joint Capability Group and the wider Defence to deliver improvements to Defence systems and introduce new capabilities that support operational requirements. The team contributes to Defence Digital Group’s broader mission by coordinating complex project activities, managing risks and dependencies, and ensuring that project outcomes align with Defence’s technology and capability objectives.
It is a collaborative environment that brings together technical specialists, project managers and stakeholders to deliver practical and measurable results.
Our Ideal Candidate
Our ideal candidate is an experienced ICT project officer who thrives in dynamic, fast-moving environments and can manage multiple competing priorities with sound judgement. They will demonstrate strong leadership, excellent communication skills and the ability to influence and collaborate with diverse stakeholders.
They will be skilled in delivering high-quality governance products, procurement, managing risks proactively, coordinating multidisciplinary teams and applying agile and contemporary project management methodologies. Highly organised, adaptable and committed to Defence outcomes, they will foster a positive, accountable and results-driven team culture.
EligibilitySecurity Clearance:
Applicants must be able to obtain and maintain a security clearance at “Negative Vetting Level 1”.
