About the role
Full-time | Tamworth-based hybrid position
Salary package: $76,000–$100,000 including superannuation
Moss Environmental is a specialist environmental consultancy with a highly experienced team located across eastern Australia.
Led by a highly credentialled Director, our practice provides expertise across construction and mining environmental management, ecology, hydrology, contaminated land and natural resource management.
Our projects span construction, mining, environmental education, project approvals, transport operations, social impact and environmental project management. We have earned a strong reputation for delivering high-quality, efficient, practical and cost-effective solutions.
We offer a positive and collaborative workplace that values professional excellence, flexibility, personal accountability and ongoing professional growth.
We are looking for an early-career Environmental Consultant or Environmental Engineer to join our growing team in Tamworth.
Reporting to a Senior or Principal Environmental Consultant or Engineer, you will also work closely with our Director and broader consulting team. You will contribute to varied environmental projects while developing your technical, project-management and client-engagement capabilities.
This is not a role where you will be limited to one narrow area of work. You will gain exposure to different industries, technical disciplines, project stages and working environments. As your experience develops, you will be encouraged to take increasing ownership of projects and contribute ideas to the future direction of the business.
The position is full-time and based in Tamworth, with hybrid working arrangements available.
Your responsibilities will include:
Supporting the delivery of environmental and social consulting projects across construction, mining, infrastructure and other sectors
Undertaking environmental research, assessments, site inspections and fieldwork
Assisting with environmental impact assessments, project approvals, management plans and technical reports
Analysing information and preparing clear, well-reasoned findings and recommendations
Working with clients, contractors, regulators, technical specialists and other project stakeholders
Helping ensure projects and reports are delivered within agreed timelines and quality requirements
Taking ownership of allocated tasks and proactively identifying solutions
Assisting senior consultants with project coordination and environmental compliance activities
Contributing thoughtful and practical ideas to project and business discussions
Participating in professional development, training, industry events and professional networks
Maintaining accurate project records and complying with company quality, safety and environmental procedures
Travelling locally and interstate when required for project delivery.
You are an energetic and motivated environmental professional who wants to build a varied and rewarding consulting career.
You enjoy solving problems, untangling complex issues and applying technical knowledge to real-world situations. You take pride in your work, communicate professionally and are comfortable working both collaboratively and independently.
To be considered, you will have:
A degree in environmental science, environmental engineering or a related discipline
At least one year of relevant post-graduate professional experience
Strong research, analytical and problem-solving skills
The ability to prepare clear, logical and professionally written reports
Good time-management and organisational skills
The ability to manage competing priorities and meet tight deadlines
A proactive approach and willingness to take ownership of tasks
The confidence to work independently, including under hybrid or remote-working arrangements
A collaborative attitude and enthusiasm for becoming a valued member of a small team
A current Australian driver licence
A current base in Tamworth or the surrounding region.
Experience in any of the following areas will be highly regarded:
Australian construction projects
Construction environmental management
Ecology, or natural resource management
Hydrology or water management
Climate change, climate risk or adaptation
Environmental assessment, approvals or compliance
Environmental fieldwork, inspections or monitoring
Social Impact Assessment.
You will also need an adventurous spirit and a willingness to travel. Moss Environmental undertakes projects throughout eastern Australia, so the role may involve regular local and interstate travel.
At Moss Environmental, you will have:
A flexible, Tamworth-based hybrid working arrangement
Direct mentoring from senior consultants and the company Director
Exposure to diverse projects, sectors and environmental disciplines
Opportunities to develop technical, consulting and project-management skills
Increasing project ownership as your experience and confidence grow
A supportive and collaborative team environment
Genuine opportunities to contribute ideas and influence a growing business
A strong focus on professional development and long-term career progression.
Please submit your résumé and a brief cover letter explaining:
Your relevant qualifications and experience
Your connection to or current location in the Tamworth region
The environmental disciplines or project types that most interest you
Why you would like to join Moss Environmental.
We look forward to hearing from environmental professionals who are ready to take the next step in their careers.
