VCE Legal Studies Teacher

East Preston Islamic College (EPIC) is a K–12, independent, co-educational school located in Melbourne’s inner north. We're looking for a Secondary Teacher to deliver VCE Legal Studies. Graduates Teachers are warmly encouraged to apply, alongside experienced practitioners looking for their next challenge. We're just as interested in your potential as your track record.

The ability to also teach English and/or Humanities is highly regarded and will be looked on favourably, though it isn't essential if Legal Studies is your strength.

Being Muslim isn't a requirement for this role, but every staff member is expected to support the College's Islamic ethos and get involved in the wider co-curricular and pastoral life of the school.

• Plan and deliver VCE Legal Studies lessons that are rigorous, current and genuinely engaging — bringing real cases, real debate and critical thinking into the classroom.

• Assess and report on student progress, including parent/teacher conferences, with feedback that actually helps students improve.

• Build real relationships with your students through pastoral care, as part of a homeroom or year-level team.

• Collaborate with the secondary team on curriculum and share what's working, while keeping your own practice growing through professional learning.

• Get involved beyond the classroom — excursions, camps and co-curricular life — and help shape the wider school community.

• Take on some teaching outside Legal Studies where needed, plus the everyday responsibilities of a classroom teacher (yard duty, supervision, staff meetings).

• Registered (or provisionally registered) with the Victorian Institute of Teaching, with a recognised teaching qualification — graduate teachers are welcome to apply.

• Confident with the VCE Legal Studies study design; able to also teach English and/or Humanities is a real bonus.

• A natural communicator who can hold a room of teenagers and get them genuinely thinking.

• Calm, consistent classroom management and a real investment in student wellbeing.

• A team player who wants to be part of pastoral care and co-curricular life, not just teach and leave.

• On board with the ethos and values of an Islamic school community, and ready to bring that into daily practice.

Salary is paid in accordance with the East Preston Islamic College Teaching Salary Scale, aligned with the Victorian Government Teacher Pay Scale, plus superannuation.
