About the role
Company Description
Nine is Australia’s largest locally owned media company. Working at Nine, you’ll have access to a unique range of experiences and opportunities, helping drive the success of the country’s most trusted television, radio, digital and publishing brands.
Our content reaches almost every Australian - meaning what we do has real impact. We bring people together, celebrate the big moments, and capture the everyday ones.
Some of our most beloved brands have been part of Australian life for generations, and others - new on the scene - have already found their place firmly in our lives. We’re evolving and we need people like you to bring new ideas, innovate and make your mark.
Job Description
Play a pivotal role in driving the daily news agenda for one of Australia’s biggest websites, nine.com.au. Reporting to the editor, you will lead a digital news team and ensure content reflects what our audience needs to know every day.
We are looking for someone who leads by example to mentor our exceptional team of reporters. To be successful in this role, you need to know what resonates across platforms, how to push stories forward, and how to seamlessly collaborate across editorial teams.
In a fast-paced, high-pressure news cycle, you stay calm, balancing speed with accuracy while energising the newsroom with your expertise, enthusiasm, and positive leadership.
Day to day you will:
Drive the daily newsroom agenda and coordinate reporter workflows from 6am on and off-platform.
Partner with the page editors to optimise content ahead of morning traffic peaks.
Deliver compelling news, explainers, and analysis in collaboration with senior editorial leaders.
Plan strategic story rollouts across platforms, including EDMs, to maximise audience reach.
Lead, mentor, and motivate a high-performing team of digital news reporters.
Monitor emerging news and collaborate with broadcast and publishing teams to build key stories.
Chair daily news conferences and uphold editorial standards, tone, and journalistic integrity.
What you'll bring:
Substantial editorial experience leading and managing digital news content in a fast-paced setting.
Proven track record of guiding, mentoring, and developing journalists in a newsroom.
Strong knowledge of digital publishing, audience analytics, and online content strategy.
Outstanding communication, organisational, and decision-making skills under tight deadlines.
Experience with digital production tools, with Canva proficiency considered a plus.
Collaborative mindset to partner effectively across cross-functional media divisions.
