About the role
Casual, on-call | BRISBANE / MELBOURNE / SYDNEY
$32.31–$42.33 per hour + 31% forensic cleaning allowance
National Trauma and Crime Scene Cleaning (NTCSC) is seeking reliable, resilient and compassionate people to join our specialist cleaning teams in Brisbane, Melbourne and Sydney.
Our technicians don’t investigate incidents, gather evidence or work alongside police in an operational capacity. What we do is highly specialised: cleaning and biohazard remediation in the aftermath of difficult events, once emergency services and other authorities have finished their work.
Our technicians restore spaces to safety with care and discretion, often supporting people who are navigating trauma, grief, illness, hardship or deep vulnerability.
The work is practical, physical and sometimes graphic. It requires emotional steadiness, disciplined adherence to safety procedures, careful documentation and genuine respect for every person and property involved.
For the right person, it is challenging but deeply meaningful work.
We welcome applicants who have developed calmness, discipline and sound judgement through work in areas such as:
Healthcare, nursing, patient care or hospital services
Ambulance, paramedicine or other emergency-response roles
Australian Defence Force or military service
Police, corrections, custodial services or security
Fire, rescue or disaster-response services
Mortuary, funeral, pathology or forensic-support services
Mental health, crisis support, homelessness or community services
Aged care, disability support or palliative care
Occupational health and safety, hazardous materials or industrial response
Restoration, remediation, specialist sanitation or biohazard cleaning
Current, former and transitioning workers from these fields may be well suited to the role. However, experience in one of these sectors is not mandatory. Applicants from other backgrounds will be considered if they can demonstrate the required resilience, reliability, practical ability and compassion.
Depending on the job, you may assist with:
Biohazard cleaning and decontamination
Blood and bodily-fluid remediation
Trauma and unattended-death cleaning
Hoarding and gross-filth clean-ups
Sharps removal and infectious-waste handling
Clandestine drug-lab remediation
Prison, commercial and specialist cleaning
General labouring, equipment movement and heavy lifting
Completing site audits, photographs and reports using an iPad
Communicating professionally with clients, contractors and other stakeholders
Travelling to metropolitan, regional or interstate job sites when required
You will work in full personal protective equipment and must follow detailed safety and decontamination procedures consistently.
NTCSC provides services around the clock, so this is a casual, on-call position, not a fixed-hours cleaning role. Work may arise during the day, overnight, on weekends or at short notice.
Specialist cleaning can be physically and emotionally demanding, so we believe technicians should be properly equipped, trained, supported and recognised for the work they perform.
As part of the NTCSC team, you can expect:
Competitive rates of pay, including a 31% forensic cleaning allowance
Consistent work opportunities across a diverse range of specialist cleaning and remediation assignments
A work vehicle that may be made available for travel to and from job sites, depending on operational requirements and availability
Appropriate PPE and specialised equipment supplied for the safe completion of assigned work
Confidential Employee Assistance Program (EAP) access to support your mental health and wellbeing
Tailored practical training based on your experience, capabilities and development needs
Ongoing professional development in specialist cleaning, biohazard remediation, safety and client care
Opportunities to work towards recognised industry credentials, including potential access to accredited qualifications through the Institute of Inspection, Cleaning and Restoration Certification (IICRC) and other relevant providers
Experienced operational support when working through complex, confronting or sensitive assignments
A workplace that values safety, professionalism, compassion, confidentiality and continuous learning
We do not expect new technicians to arrive knowing every aspect of specialist remediation. We do expect them to be willing to learn, follow established procedures, use the supplied equipment responsibly and take ownership of developing their skills.
For people who demonstrate reliability, sound judgement and commitment, this role offers the opportunity to build genuine specialist expertise in an important and highly technical field.
Cleaning experience can be helpful, but it is only one part of the role. We need someone who combines practical capability with maturity, emotional control and genuine care for others.
You may be a good fit if you:
Remain calm and task-focused in graphic, confronting or emergency-related environments
Understand how to behave professionally around people experiencing grief, trauma or crisis
Are dependable and answer the phone when you have committed to being available
Take pride in completing difficult and unglamorous work thoroughly
Can manage strong odours, bodily fluids and challenging site conditions
Are physically fit and comfortable with lifting, repetitive work and extended periods in PPE
Follow procedures precisely and never take shortcuts with safety
Notice small details and understand that “visually clean” does not necessarily mean decontaminated
Communicate clearly and complete accurate digital records
Treat clients, their property and their circumstances with compassion, dignity and discretion
Can work effectively both independently and as part of a team
Are willing to learn specialist remediation methods and accept direction
To be clear, this is not the work depicted in Crime Scene Investigation or other fictional crime dramas.
Our technicians do not solve crimes or seek out interesting stories. They clean, decontaminate, remove hazardous material, lift equipment, manage waste and document their work. Jobs can be physically exhausting, emotionally difficult, unpleasant and repetitive.
You may encounter blood, bodily fluids, decomposition, strong odours, needles, severe property neglect and people experiencing acute distress. You must be able to remain composed without becoming detached from the human circumstances around you.
Client privacy is absolute. What you see, hear or learn through this work is not material for conversation, social media or storytelling.
Please apply because you value the work itself and want to help restore safety and dignity—not because you are attracted to the idea of crime scenes.
To be considered, you must:
Live in or within practical travelling distance of Brisbane, Melbourne or Sydney
Hold a current Australian driver’s licence
Have reliable access to a roadworthy vehicle
Be willing and able to obtain a National Police Check
Have the legal right to work the required casual and on-call hours in Australia
Be available for some short-notice, after-hours and weekend work
Be willing to travel when required
Be comfortable using an iPad for photographs, audits and reports
Be physically and emotionally capable of performing confronting specialist-cleaning work safely
Previous experience in emergency response, healthcare, defence, policing, corrections, crisis support, biohazard remediation or commercial cleaning is advantageous but not essential. Specialist training will be provided to the right person.
National Trauma and Crime Scene Cleaning is a 100% Australian-owned and operated specialist cleaning company with more than 30 years of forensic-cleaning experience.
We provide trauma, biohazard, forensic and specialist remediation services across Australia. Our work is built around safety, thoroughness, confidentiality, professionalism, care and compassion.
Please submit your résumé and a brief cover letter answering the following:
What experience has prepared you to remain calm and effective in graphic, confronting or highly sensitive situations?
What interests you about the practical cleaning and remediation work involved in this position?
Tell us about a time you completed difficult, unpleasant or physically demanding work without taking shortcuts.
What does confidentiality mean when entering a client’s home or workplace during a distressing event?
Which location are you applying for, and what is your realistic availability for casual, short-notice and after-hours work?
Applications that address these questions directly will be given priority.
