Parkville Youth Mental Health and Wellbeing Service (PYMHWS) is Victoria’s newest public mental health service dedicated to the care of young people aged 12 to 25 experiencing complex mental health challenges.

The Opportunity
The Family Work Clinical Specialist – HYPE Stream is a key leadership role driving the delivery of high-quality, evidence-based family interventions for young people experiencing personality disorder and complex mental health needs. The role contributes to shaping clinical policy, guidelines and service planning, ensuring care is integrated, developmentally informed and responsive across the continuum from early presentation to longer-term recovery. A central focus is supporting social and vocational recovery, promoting adaptive help-seeking and enhancing wellbeing for young people and their families.
This position leads the implementation of family work practices across HYPE, translating research and clinical knowledge into consistent, high-quality care. It also plays a key role in workforce development through supervision, mentoring and training of senior clinicians, and contributes to broader service development and system integration.
The role requires strong clinical leadership and advanced expertise in evidence-based family work, particularly with personality disorder presentations. The successful applicant will demonstrate the ability to influence practice and support multidisciplinary teams.
This is an ongoing part-time position, offering an opportunity to contribute to an innovative youth mental health service.

About The Role
The Family Work Clinical Specialist leads the provision of comprehensive and integrated family interventions for young people and families in HYPE. The Family Work Clinical Specialist role is responsible for the translation of clinical service provision with learning from PYMHWS clinical, research, training and communication programs, as well as other sources of evidence-based practice.
The Family Work Clinical Specialist will be actively involved in the strategic development and transformation of HYPE services, including establishing pathways for young people aged 12-25 years old and their families to receive care across the continuum of presentations from early in the course of illness to longer term recovery from severe illness and complex comorbidity. These pathways will involve the integration of specialist community care with existing services including Headspace, YPARC and inpatient care, ensuring access to primary, secondary and tertiary consultation regarding assessment and early intervention for personality disorders. Furthermore, the Family Work Clinical Specialist will also have the capacity to contribute specialist knowledge to future PYMHWS clinical initiatives.
What You'll Do
Clinical Leadership & Capability Building Provide strong clinical leadership across the HYPE Stream, Lead the development and implementation of the Family Work Model of Care, embedding consistent, evidence-based family-inclusive practice across the service.Strategic Program Development: Support the HYPE Stream Leader in strategic growth, including regional expansion, adapting the model for younger clients (12–14 years), and strengthening service delivery frameworks.Support to Team Leadership & Operations: Work closely with Team Leaders to support clinical processes, including client allocation, critical incident responses, discharge planning, business meetings, and attendance and/or leadership of clinical review meetings.Service Model & Project Leadership: Contribute to the development of a comprehensive service delivery model, including leading time-limited projects and contributing to research, training and broader service initiatives.Specialist Clinical Practice Deliver high-quality clinical care, including mental health and risk assessments, psychological interventions, crisis response, family work and system coordination, with capacity to hold a small caseload.
About You
A senior mental health clinician with substantial experience working with young people aged 12 – 25 and their families, delivering expert diagnostic assessment, formulation, and evidence-based interventions. You bring advanced knowledge of early intervention, risk assessment and client-centred care planning, alongside a strong understanding of clinical governance. You are a confident and collaborative leader, skilled in developing and managing multidisciplinary teams, providing high-quality supervision and training, and engaged in service development and the translation of research evidence and into innovative clinical practice. You may have experience with the HYPE model of Relational Clinical Care and as a Cognitive Analytic Therapy practitioner. ---
