Student Placement Opportunity

Are you currently studying Certificate III in Individual Support or Certificate IV in Disability Support?

Complete up to 120 required placement hours with cape group and gain practical experience in a supportive disability services environment.

Fixed placement days will be agreed with you before commencement.

Hours: Up to 120 hours

Days: Fixed placement days agreed with the student and cape group – Minimum 2 days per week

About the Role

At cape, we welcome students who are currently studying Certificate III in Individual Support or Certificate IV in Disability Support and are ready to complete their required 120 hours of placement.

• Experience day program environments where participants take part in structured, goal-focused activities.
• Gain some exposure to accommodation settings, where suitable and available.

During placement, you will have the opportunity to observe and contribute to high-quality, person-centred support that promotes independence, inclusion, dignity and meaningful participation in everyday life. 

This placement is a chance to build your confidence, apply what you are learning in your course, and experience how disability support is delivered in real workplace settings.

Placement days will be fixed and agreed with you and cape before commencement, so you can plan around your study and other commitments.

Practical Workplace Learning

Depending on the placement setting, you will have opportunities to:

• Observe experienced staff, ask questions and learn how disability support teams work in day-to-day service settings.
• Apply classroom learning through guided observation, reflection and supported participation in real service environments.

Person-Centred Support

• Support people with disability in ways that respect their choices, strengths, communication preferences and individual goals.
• Understand how individual support plans guide personalised, respectful and consistent support.
• Build positive communication and respectful relationships with participants, families and team members.
• Provide personal care by supporting participants with their daily personal needs, while maintaining dignity, privacy and respect.

Community & Program Engagement

• Support people to take part in community, social and program-based activities that reflect their interests and goals.
• Learn how structured activities can support skill development, confidence, connection and community participation.

Documentation & Compliance

• Learn how progress notes, incident reports and other records support clear, accurate and accountable disability support practice.
• Understand key compliance expectations, including safe work practices, confidentiality, policies and the NDIS Practice Standards.

About You

• Ready to complete an unpaid vocational placement of up to 120 hours on fixed days agreed with cape.

Placement Eligibility

• You must be currently enrolled in Certificate III in Individual Support or Certificate IV in Disability Support.
• Your placement must be a required part of your course and approved by your training provider.
• You must be able to commit to a minimum of 2 days per week on fixed days agreed with cape.

Placement Requirements

Before commencing placement, students need to provide current versions of the following:

• NDIS Worker Screening Clearance
• Working with Children Check (WWCC)

You also need to provide evidence of current enrolment with your training provider.
