Snapes Australia is an established Australian-owned logistics business with a proud history of delivering specialist transport and logistics solutions to some of Australia’s leading retail and commercial organisations.

As our Victorian operations continue to grow, we are looking for an Operations Manager to join our team and play a key role in the next stage of that growth.

This is a hands-on operational leadership role. You won't be sitting behind a desk all day. You'll be actively involved in coordinating transport operations, supporting drivers and warehouse staff, solving problems and making sure our customers receive the high level of service Snapes is known for.

The Opportunity

Reporting to senior management, you will take responsibility for the day-to-day operation of our Victorian business, leading a small team and ensuring jobs are planned, coordinated and completed safely, efficiently and on time.

This is an ideal opportunity for an experienced Transport Supervisor, Operations Supervisor, Transport Manager or Operations Manager who wants greater responsibility and the opportunity to make a real impact in a growing business.

Your key responsibilities will include:

• Managing and coordinating daily Victorian transport operations

• Leading and supporting a small team of drivers and operational staff

• Assisting in the recruitment process for continual growth

• Planning transport runs, allocating vehicles and managing resources

• Monitoring deliveries and ensuring customer commitments are met

• Using transport management systems to plan, track and report on operations

• Working closely with drivers, customers, subcontractors and internal teams

• Resolving operational issues quickly and professionally

• Ensuring vehicles, equipment and operational processes are maintained to a high standard

• Supporting compliance with Chain of Responsibility, WHS and company procedures

• Monitoring driver performance, productivity and operational efficiency

• Assisting with recruitment, onboarding, training and performance management

• Identifying opportunities to improve processes, reduce costs and support continued growth

• Being prepared to get involved on the floor when required – including forklift and loading/unloading activities

What We're Looking For

We're looking for someone who knows transport and knows how to get things done.

You will ideally have:

• Previous experience in transport, logistics or distribution operations

• Experience managing or supervising a small operational team

• Strong working knowledge of a Transport Management System (TMS)

• A current forklift licence and the ability to confidently operate a forklift when required

• Excellent verbal and written communication skills

• Strong organisational and time-management skills

• The ability to remain calm and solutions-focused when things don't go to plan

• A practical, hands-on approach to leadership

• Good computer skills and confidence working with operational systems and reporting

• A strong understanding of workplace health and safety and transport compliance

• A genuine commitment to customer service

• Experience with Fragile, sensitive freight

HR licence would be highly regarded, as would experience managing heavy vehicles, subcontractors or multi-drop transport operations.

Who Will Succeed in This Role?

You'll succeed if you're the person who sees a problem and gets it sorted.

You're organised, approachable and comfortable dealing with drivers, customers and management. You can manage a TMS, plan a day's transport, jump on a forklift when needed and have a difficult conversation when required.
