About the role

We are seeking an experienced and commercially astute lawyer to help manage our in-house captive law firm, which is wholly owned by this well-capitalised non-bank lender.

This is a unique opportunity to assist in the management of this high-performing legal practice focused on mortgage enforcement, debt recovery, insolvency and financial litigation. The firm provides legal services to the lender’s internal businesses and an expanding external client base including private lenders, financiers, trustees and corporate clients.

This role combines legal practice and hands on control, managing all financial recovery matters in the Victorian jurisdiction, while offering the successful candidate the opportunity to help contribute to the growth of this profitable specialist law firm.

About the Business

Our parent company is a rapidly growing non-bank lender and investment platform operating across commercial and development finance. The captive law firm was established to provide end-to-end recovery and enforcement services, including:

Mortgage enforcement and possession proceedings

Debt recovery and statutory demands

Insolvency and bankruptcy matters

Security enforcement and receivership support

Commercial litigation and dispute resolution

Recovery services for third-party lenders and institutional clients

Key Responsibilities

• Manage Victorian litigation, enforcement and recovery matters

• Manage and mentor solicitors, paralegals and support staff

• Manage legal strategy from pre-default through to judgment and enforcement

• Maintain efficient case management and reporting systems

• Contribute to the provision of strategic legal advice to the parent lender

• Drive productivity and operational excellence while ensuring regulatory compliance and professional obligations

As the Ideal Candidate, you will be:

• Admitted legal practitioner with an unrestricted practising certificate

• Approximately 3+ years’ post-admission experience in litigation and recoveries

• Experience in mortgage enforcement and secured lending disputes particulalry in Victoria

• Commercial acumen

• Desire to be part of a small yet dynamic team

• Entrepreneurial mindset with an interest in helping to build a scalable legal business
