BARR ENGINEERING INDUSTRIES PTY LTD Duties and Responsibilities Fabricating products and components from mild steel, stainless steel and aluminium materials.   Reading and interpreting engineering drawings, blueprints, sketches and technical specifications to determine fabrication requirements.   Measuring, marking out and preparing structural steel, metal plates, pipes and other materials for fabrication.

  Cutting, shaping, bending and forming metal using hand tools, power tools, flame-cutting equipment and fabrication machinery.   Assembling, fitting and aligning fabricated metal components in accordance with engineering drawings and project specifications.   Performing welding using MIG, TIG and Stick welding processes to fabricate and repair metal components.

  Grinding, cleaning, polishing and finishing fabricated metal products and welded joints to meet quality standards.   Fabricating, assembling, modifying and repairing structural steel, frames, platforms, tanks, pipework and other fabricated metal products.   Inspecting fabricated components and completed welds to ensure dimensional accuracy and compliance with engineering specifications.

  Maintaining tools, plant, welding equipment and fabrication machinery.   Ensuring accurate time records are maintained for project work.   Adhering to Quality Assurance (QA), Workplace Health and Safety (WH&S) and company procedures to ensure product integrity and the safety of all team members.

  Assisting other tradesmen and apprentices in the correct operation of equipment and fabrication methods.   Producing drawings and sketches of components for record-keeping and fabrication purposes.   Assisting in quoting projects as required.

  Opening and closing the workshop when required. Contributing to the design, fabrication and modification of equipment, fabricated items and special-purpose machinery.   Providing technical expertise to continually improve fabrication methods, welding techniques and production processes.

  Working collaboratively with supervisors and other tradespeople to resolve fabrication issues and ensure projects are completed safely, efficiently and within project schedules.   Keeping all work areas clean, organised and safe.   Working reasonable overtime when required to meet operational and project requirements.

Qualifications Trade qualification as a Boilermaker/Metal Fabricator or equivalent industry experience. Demonstrated experience in structural steel fabrication, metal fabrication, general fabrication or light engineering. Proven experience in the fabrication, assembly, installation, modification and repair of structural steel and fabricated metal products.

Proficiency in MIG, TIG, and stick welding. Ability to accurately read and interpret engineering drawings. High attention to detail and pride in producing quality work.

Strong problem-solving and communication skills. Current driver's licence. A positive attitude, strong work ethic, and commitment to workplace safety.

Ability to successfully complete a weld test and pre-employment medical if required. Hygienic purge welding experience highly regarded.
