Engine Machinist/Experienced Trade Assistant

About the role

HM GEM Engines is seeking an experienced Engine Machinist / Trade Assistant to join the workshop team at Algester, Brisbane. The newly purpose-built facility is equipped with modern machinery and technology, providing an opportunity to work on a wide range of diesel and gas engine components, including some of the latest equipment available in the industry. The role will involve a variety of engine machining and workshop duties with a strong understanding of heavy diesel and gas engine components.

Key responsibilities

• Component surveying, measuring and reporting

• AMC machining

• Crankshaft and camshaft polishing

• General machining and workshop duties associated with engine reconditioning

• Following manufacturer and industry specifications

• Maintaining accurate documentation and quality records

About you

• Trade qualification in Fitting & Turning, Machining or a related trade, preferably within engine or heavy diesel and gas applications

• Experience in cylinder head reconditioning, crankshaft grinding, connecting rod and cylinder block machining

• CNC machining experience, particularly Rottler, AMC or similar equipment

• Strong attention to detail and a commitment to accuracy

• Ability to interpret, source and follow industrial and manufacturer specifications

• Strong understanding of quality control and accurate process documentation

• Forklift licence is desirable

• Willingness to train and mentor apprentices

• Self-motivated with the ability to work independently and as part of a team

• Commitment to working within a quality-endorsed environment
