Leading Hand – Structural Steel, Roofing & Cladding 

We are looking for an experienced and motivated Leading Hand to join our team and take responsibility for the day-to-day running of a small site crew. 

This is a hands-on role suited to someone who enjoys being on the tools but is ready to take greater ownership of planning, productivity, quality and developing others. 

Our work is varied and includes structural steel erection, roofing and cladding, industrial construction, sheds, water infrastructure, quarry sites and Tier 1 projects. 

The Role

Working closely with our Project Managers, you will:

• Lead and work alongside a small crew, generally 2–4 people. 

• Plan and coordinate daily site activities. 

• Read and interpret construction and shop drawings. 

• Think ahead regarding labour, materials, plant and access requirements. 

• Maintain high standards of safety, quality and productivity. 

• Identify site issues, delays and potential variations early. 

• Complete basic site records, photos and QA documentation. 

• Communicate effectively with Project Managers, clients and other trades. 

• Mentor and develop apprentices and less experienced team members. 

• Take ownership of your workfront without requiring constant supervision. 

About You

Ideally, you will have experience in structural steel, roofing/cladding, fabrication or similar construction work, along with: 

• Previous experience leading or supervising a small crew. 

• Strong practical and problem-solving skills. 

• Ability to read and interpret drawings. 

• Good planning and communication skills. 

• Strong safety awareness. 

• Pride in your workmanship and the performance of your team. 

• A reliable, proactive attitude and willingness to take responsibility. 

Tickets such as Working at Heights, EWP, Forklift, Dogging, Rigging and Crane licences are highly regarded but not all are essential.
