The opportunity

We have an exciting opportunity for a capable and motivated Geotechnical Engineer to join our team in Melbourne to contribute to a diverse range of geotechnical and related projects.

This role will suit an individual who combines sound technical knowledge with a practical, collaborative approach. You will work closely with project managers, clients and colleagues to deliver robust, innovative and value-focused solutions.

Ideally, you will have previous experience in pavement design, or a strong desire to learn and develop capability in this area.

What you’ll be doing

Technical Delivery

• Deliver geotechnical and related project work to a high professional standard.
• Ensure internal and external client expectations are met or exceeded.
• Apply a “big picture” mindset, with a strong focus on teamwork and project outcomes.
• Develop innovative, practical and robust approaches to assigned tasks.
• Recognize and pursue opportunities to apply and extend your knowledge and capability within project constraints.
• Demonstrate a sound understanding of relevant standards, including AS 3798 and AS 1289.
• Apply knowledge of local geology and associated earthworks issues.
• Maintain an understanding of current and developing earthworks practices.
• Ensure work is appropriately reviewed by another suitably qualified person.
• Provide leadership, guidance and mentoring to junior staff.
• Build positive client relationships through clear, timely and effective communication.

Project Management

• Obtain or define clear briefs, resource requirements, time allocations and delivery timelines for each assignment or work package.
• Identify and communicate changes to the brief or potential scope extensions, ensuring these are agreed with the Project Manager.
• Promptly advise the Project Manager of ideas, risks, issues or potential problems.
• Maintain open, effective communication with Project Managers and project teams.
• Contribute to the successful delivery of projects within agreed scope, time and budget.

What you’ll bring 

• A relevant tertiary qualification in Civil Engineering, Geotechnical Engineering or a related discipline.
• Relevant experience in geotechnical engineering and/or earthworks projects and Pavement Design.
• Sound knowledge of AS 3798, AS 1289, local geology and earthworks practices.
• Strong technical writing, reporting and communication skills.
• The ability to manage competing priorities and deliver work to agreed timeframes.
• A practical, solutions-focused approach to problem solving.
• The confidence to communicate effectively with clients, project managers and colleagues.
• Experience mentoring or supporting junior staff.
• A commitment to quality, professional standards and continual learning.
