About You

Southern Cross Catholic College is seeking a skilled and proactive Technical Trades Assistant to support our dynamic Trade Training and Vocational programs. This role is pivotal in maintaining a safe, compliant, and highly functional learning environment across our many courses and pathways such as Construction, Furniture Making, Automotive, Plumbing, and Electrotechnology.

The successful candidate will possess a solid trade background (e.g., Joinery or similar) and a strong proactive mindset. Beyond daily classroom and workshop support, you will play an active role in fabricating resources, maintaining facilities, and working on projects that directly enhance school infrastructure, support student projects and innovative programs and partnerships. 

Essential Criteria

• Trade Background: Proven experience in a skilled trade environment, such as joinery, carpentry, cabinet making, or a related discipline
• Technical Proficiency: Strong practical ability to operate, maintain, and troubleshoot a wide variety of mechanical hand tools and machinery
• Safety Focus: Demonstrated knowledge of WHS practices and a commitment to maintaining a zero-harm workshop environment
• Growth Mindset: A clear willingness to learn new skills, adopt digital compliance tools (like Onguard), and undertake training across unfamiliar trade areas. Ability
• to work well both independently and as part of a team
• Project Capability: Demonstrated ability to work independently on construction or fabrication projects to improve workspace layout and facility resources
• Licensing: A valid, current Driver’s Licence to manage material transport
• Collaboration: Ability to work collaboratively with staff and students
• General: Excellent communication and organisational skills, support and resourcefulness
• Catholic ethos: A willingness to support the positive religious and cultural Catholic school environment for students
