Nature and ScopeThe Conservatorium promotes the study, practice, performance and knowledge of music and the performing arts in Tamworth and the region, contributing to the enhancement of the cultural life of the regional community by providing a centre for teaching, performance and appreciation of music.
The Conservatorium aims to provide music education of the highest quality, producing students with high self-esteem and the confidence to achieve their goals.

Position ContextThe violin/viola teacher reports to the Program Manager and is responsible for duties related to effective teaching. The incumbent is expected to support the Conservatorium’s aims, policies, and procedures.

Duties and ResponsibilitiesTeach individual violin/viola and small groups from beginner through to advanced levels across a broad range of styles as required, ensuring that lessons are thoroughly prepared and designed to engage and challenge students in learningDevelop and direct ensembles across all levelsTeach in Schools for the Conservatorium as requiredDirect ensembles in Schools on behalf of the Conservatorium as requiredUnderstand and accommodate the learning needs of all students, including those with a disability or special learning needMaintain accurate records of student attendanceMaintain accurate records of the teaching program and student assessmentsContribute to the development of curriculum, teaching and assessment materialsMaintain a positive environment in lessons and rehearsals that is respectful of all present and fosters student learningProvide prompt and regular feedback to students on their progressAdopt appropriate assessment proceduresPrepare reports for all students taughtPrepare students for solo performancesPrepare ensembles for public performancePrepare students for examinations, where appropriateParticipate in ensembles, concerts, rehearsals and other Conservatorium occasions/events as requiredWork collaboratively with all relevant staff members, ensuring information is communicated in an appropriate and timely manner and supports improved student learning outcomesAttend staff meetings and contribute as requiredActively participate in professional learning activities to keep up to date professionallySupport Conservatorium-wide professional learning through the sharing of professional knowledge and practices with colleaguesMaintain appropriate safety of students within the teaching studioWork safely and report any hazards per Conservatorium proceduresDemonstrate a willingness to participate in educational changeActively support and promote Conservatorium policies and proceduresOther duties as required.

Selection CriteriaDemonstrated experience in the provision of violin & viola tuition across a range of styles and levels.Demonstrated high–level conducting skills.Demonstrated capacity to perform publicly.Tertiary Qualifications in music and/or education and/or equivalent professional experience.Demonstrated high–level communication skills, including the ability to effectively engage with staff, students, parents, school personnel and other stakeholders.Demonstrated organisational and administrative skills.Holder of a current NSW Drivers Licence.Current NSW Working With Children Check.

DesirableAbility to teach cello and/or piano.Keyboard accompaniment skillsKnowledge, experience, and understanding of NESA syllabus, AMEB and Trinity examination systemsCapacity to lead curriculum development
