Café Lead / Head Barista – OFFSET Matcha & Brew

OFFSET Matcha & Brew is looking for an experienced, passionate and hands-on Café Lead / Head Barista to work closely alongside the owner and take the lead on the day-to-day running and growth of our café set-up.

Located on Crown Street in Surry Hills, OFFSET is a specialty coffee and matcha window with outdoor seating and games, operating alongside our established barber shop, Verve Barbering.

Our aim is to make OFFSET more than just a café window. We want to create a destination people talk about — known for exceptional coffee, specialty matcha and creative drinks, unique snack bites, great service, and a space with its own personality.

We're looking for someone who can bring leadership, organisation and consistency to the operation, while working collaboratively with the owner on the continued development of the business.

This is a very hands-on role. You'll be behind the machine and serving customers while also taking responsibility for making sure the café and drinks to our barbershop clients runs smoothly and consistently.

The Role:

Working closely alongside the owner, you will:

• Lead the day-to-day running of the café and barista shifts
• Maintain high standards of cleanliness, organisation and presentation
• Manage opening, set-up and closing procedures
• Handle cash and complete end-of-day cash-ups
• Manage day-to-day stock control and ordering within agreed budgets
• Monitor stock levels, wastage and help control costs
• Liaise with existing suppliers and assist the owner with sourcing new suppliers when required
• Maintain consistent quality across coffee, matcha, specialty drinks and our snack food offering
• Train, guide and support new and existing team members
• Lead by example and help ensure standards are consistently maintained across the team
• Assist the owner with staffing, rostering and shift cover where required
• Maintain a high standard of customer service and help build strong relationships with our regular customers
• Encourage customer engagement, including Google reviews, Instagram tags and follows
• Ensure food safety, hygiene and workplace procedures are followed
• Keep an eye on day-to-day sales and café performance and identify opportunities for improvement
• Capture and post regular day-to-day social content, including Instagram Stories
• Gather photos and video content throughout the week that can be used by our wider content team
• Work closely with the owner on new drinks, menu development, creative ideas and the overall development of OFFSET

About You:

We're looking for someone who:

• Has a minimum of 3 years' barista experience
• Has strong specialty coffee knowledge and can consistently produce high-quality drinks
• Is confident working in a fast-paced, hands-on environment
• Has previous leadership, senior barista or café management experience, or is an experienced barista ready to step into a leadership role
• Has natural leadership qualities and is comfortable guiding, motivating and giving feedback to others
• Is friendly, enthusiastic and genuinely welcoming with customers
• Is organised and has strong attention to detail
• Is proactive — you notice what needs doing and get it done
• Takes genuine pride in their work and the space around them
• Is creative and excited to contribute ideas
• Is comfortable training and supporting other team members
• Wants to take real ownership of their role while still working collaboratively with the owner
• Is interested in helping shape and grow a developing café concept

Matcha experience isn't essential. We can provide training, but an interest in specialty matcha and creative drinks is a big plus.

Hours:

This is a full-time position, with exact hours to be discussed with the right person.

Weekend availability is required. There may be the option to move to every second Saturday after October, depending on the needs of the business.
