About the role
Senior Media Officer
Most media roles ask you to report the story.
This one asks you to help shape it.
Central Queensland Health is looking for an experienced and proactive Senior Media Officer to join the Office of the Chief Executive.
Working closely with the Communication and Engagement team, the Chief Executive, Executive Leadership Team and key stakeholders across the health service, you will help tell the stories that matter, protect and enhance our reputation, and ensure our communities are informed and engaged.
This is not a role focused solely on responding to media enquiries.
This is an opportunity for someone who thrives in a fast-paced environment, can navigate complex and high-profile issues, and wants to play a key role in communicating the work of one of Queensland's largest regional health services.
Why this role is different
You will:
• Work directly with executive leaders on some of the organisation's most significant announcements, initiatives and challenges.
• Lead proactive and reactive media management across a health service supporting more than 230,000 Central Queenslanders.
• Identify and develop compelling stories that showcase the achievements of our staff, services and communities.
• Provide strategic media advice and support to senior leaders and subject matter experts.
• Manage media issues, reputation risks and crisis communications in a complex and highly visible environment.
• Help strengthen public confidence and trust in Central Queensland Health through effective communication and storytelling.
About you
We're not necessarily looking for someone from healthcare.
You may currently work in:
• Media and journalism
• Corporate communications
• Government media and communications
• Public relations
• Emergency services
• Higher education
• Infrastructure
• Resources
• Not-for-profit organisations
What matters most is your ability to:
• Develop strong relationships with media and key stakeholders.
• Identify, write and pitch compelling stories across a range of platforms.
• Provide trusted media and communication advice to senior leaders.
• Remain calm and effective when managing sensitive or high-profile issues.
• Translate complex information into clear, accessible and engaging content.
• Deliver media and communication outcomes that support organisational objectives and strengthen community confidence.
Why Central Queensland?
Many people discover Central Queensland for a role and stay for the lifestyle.
Here you'll find:
• Affordable housing and lower living costs.
• Short commutes and genuine work-life balance.
• Beaches, islands, national parks and outdoor adventure.
• Strong community connections.
• The opportunity to do meaningful work that matters.
Most importantly, you'll have the opportunity to help tell the stories of the people, services and innovations improving health outcomes across Central Queensland every day.
Interested?
If you're looking for a role where your work will have visibility, impact and purpose, we'd love to hear from you.
We encourage you to reach out for a confidential discussion with Erin Buchan, Director, Office of the Chief Executive.
Because sometimes the best stories start with a conversation.
