Guided by the Edmund Rice Education Australia (EREA) Touchstones of Liberating Education, Justice and Solidarity, Gospel Spirituality and Inclusive Community, we are seeking an outstanding human resources professional to join our team as Director of Human Resources.
This is a strategic leadership opportunity for an experienced HR professional who is passionate about people, organisational culture, workforce development and supporting a thriving educational community.
About the Role
Reporting to the Business Manager and working closely with the Principal and College Leadership Team, the Director of Human Resources is responsible for leading and overseeing all aspects of human resource management across the College.
The successful candidate will play a critical role in shaping and sustaining a positive, equitable and high-performing workplace culture while ensuring the College attracts, develops and retains exceptional staff who support the mission and values of St Edmund's College.
Key Responsibilities
Leadership and Strategy
Develop and implement HR strategies aligned to the College strategic priorities and mission.
Provide expert advice to the Principal and Leadership Team on workforce planning, organisational development and change management.
Lead initiatives that strengthen staff engagement, wellbeing, recognition and retention.
Recruitment and Workforce Planning
Oversee recruitment and selection processes for teaching, support and administrative staff.
Ensure recruitment practices are transparent, inclusive and values-aligned.
Manage onboarding and offboarding processes.
Support workforce planning in consultation with key leaders.
Employee Relations
Foster a respectful, collaborative and inclusive workplace culture.
Provide advice and support on employee relations matters, performance concerns and conflict resolution.
Conduct investigations and manage sensitive matters with professionalism, discretion and fairness.
Promote diversity, equity and inclusion across all HR practices.
Performance, Learning and Development
Lead performance review and development processes.
Coordinate professional learning initiatives and leadership development opportunities.
Support a culture of continuous improvement and professional excellence.
Compliance and Risk Management
Ensure compliance with employment legislation, industrial instruments, child safeguarding requirements and College policies.
Maintain HR policies, procedures and records.
Provide expert advice on Fair Work, workplace relations and employment matters.
Act as the College representative in relation to WorkCover Queensland claims and matters.
Workplace Health and Safety
Support WHS compliance and staff wellbeing initiatives.
Manage rehabilitation and return-to-work programs.
Provide advice regarding leave, entitlements and employment conditions.
About You
We are seeking a highly capable HR leader who brings strong technical expertise, outstanding interpersonal skills and a commitment to fostering a positive workplace culture.
Essential Requirements
Qualifications in Human Resources or a related discipline.
Current Working with Children Check (Blue Card), or ability to obtain one.
Demonstrated commitment to the philosophy and mission of Edmund Rice Education Australia.
Extensive knowledge of:
Enterprise Bargaining Agreements
Industrial Awards
Fair Work legislation
Workers' Compensation and Rehabilitation legislation
Workplace Health and Safety requirements

Proven experience in a senior Human Resources leadership role, preferably within an educational environment.
Strong ability to manage sensitive and confidential matters with professionalism and integrity.

Ability to work both independently and collaboratively.
